Happy Lottery Day!!!!

Jun 27, 2007 01:53

And what is lottery day, you ask? Well, the Lottery is a short story that was written by Shirley Jackson in 1948. For those that do not know the premise of the tale, it takes place on June 27. After a person from each family draws a small piece of paper, one slip with a black spot indicates the Hutchinson family has been chosen. When each member of that family draws again to see which family member "wins," Tessie Hutchinson is the final choice. She is then stoned by everyone present, including her own family.

So, may you not grab that paper with the black spot. Me, I shall celebrate by throwing rocks into the ocean and drinking heavily.

celebration, holiday
