Hunting for jobs. Applied to a couple today. I have found that contrary to prior-belief the Leicester Mercury job site does actually have some IT support jobs, and being for Leicester most of the jobs are actually in the area. My other major job search keeps giving me jobs way away in Yorkshire even though I have set the distance attribute to 25 miles from Leicester!
I am hoping something will come around and fairly soon. We could do with the money before the Government pulls the benefits-rug from beneath our feet. The closer to Leicester the better, really, as it reduces traveling costs and petrol is not cheap any more. But if I have to commute then I have to, and we just try to absorb the costs.
I am re-writing my CV so I can apply to admin jobs, I just haven't applied to any yet, its a bit scary and feels like a retrograde step away from the IT scene, but then again my time unemployed is over a year now and that is counting against me. So I have to get 'something' while I continue to look for IT posts just to prove I am employable.
The jobcentre and the working links people won't help me with any training, which is really bad. Anything new I will just have teach myself. They make no effort to help but are just poised to 'sanction' me if I don't do all their work for them. If they were actually set up to FIND JOBS for the unemployed rather than poke and threaten the unemployed until they do it for themselves that would be more useful. Its a recession, its hard to find jobs.
