I've been meaning to blog about our Vermont vacation for some time now. We left on Sunday morning, not too early, and headed up to Glens Falls to ski at a fantastic free ski area called Coles Woods. So beautiful - groomed trails, about an hour's worth, and just fabulous skiing. After a lunch of PB&J in the car that I'd packed from home we went on up to our hotel room in Burlington. The hotel was a freebie - I had points from a credit card that paid for 2 nights. We had a pleasant trip to the hot tub and then a friend of Jim's and her husband came over to our room (we had a suite) for dinner.
I had made lasagna at home and we'd brought some beer so dinner was another freebie. We had a good time - the room was nice so we could just relax.
Monday morning we had our included-in-the-room rate breakfast and headed down to Vergennes to our scratch n' dent discount grocery store. Love that place - we spent $100 but got easily $200 worth of groceries.
I had packed good food for lunches (leftover pizza and lasagna) and we had lunch before heading to downtown Burlington.
I got our First Night buttons as part of a deal - they were only $25 for the two, our first expenditure of the trip, other than gas ($40). We had a fantastic time seeing terrific music! As was the case last year, dinner was a bit of a puzzle, we ended up at a church having a too-small bowl chili and then to Starbucks where I had a coupon (of course) and we got coffee and a large piece of coffee cake to get us by. We spent only $12 on food.
We stayed until almost midnight and hopped on the bus back to our car and then to the hotel - it was a bit of a blizzard but it didn't amount to much. In the AM we partook of the freebie breakfast and then hit Glens Falls Coles Hill again on the way home. I made a packed lunch of PB&J before we left to eat in the car again.
The entire vacation, three days/two nights, two half-days of skiing, all meals and entertainment and gas cost $77 (including the tip for the maid). More than many would spend on a NYE dinner out! And we had SUCH a great time. Our favorite activities - skiing, live music, dinner with friends, hot-tubbing, and cable TV. Can't wait to do it again!
