I Am A Shell

the alley flattens everything:
garbage and a paper-thin rat
plastered on cement
like stuffed bear
entrails glare
up at my eye-slits
while I pass the poles that
are buzzing
the street lights
hammering
bums licking the last drops off
of paper-bag 40's
while North Avenue is thundering and
slumping and prostitutes are clambering
phone convos while
beat to hell volvos are
molesting sewage spill,
the common wealth is laced with
bum turds
and lawyer cigarette butts
while here
in Baltimore
the poor are ordained into the
clergy of the
broken knees
they kneel on the asphalt
licking the wounds set
in grey cataract imprints
like leaves and fist bits
Bobby and Tina 4 Ever
-I am walking across the
sewage-lot wasteland watching
the beat up convoys of unemployed
shit-mobile owners slide by
while people walk around like mobile trashcans
and there is no point in
thinking about any of it anymore
because there will always be black and white
squares in this shit hole
made to look like city
blocks and in between the
rich-poor divide, between my
apartment and the projects
there are atom crushing
alleys plastered in the
remains of
whole entities
and singular ideas
smoking cigarettes
pensively
