OK, I confess, I've been putting off posting about this match. I haven't wanted to, for what I would hope are fairly obvious reasons.
I watched the "highlights" - if there is any possibility AT ALL of them being called so - on Match of the Day. Defence was not good. We were completely outclassed. Robbie Keane was having an incredible game - but at the same time we need to stop backing off whenever anyone goes on the attack. Steven Fletcher's goal, which would have made it 1-1, was ruled offside - wrongly. It would have been a very different game if the linesman hadn't got it wrong. But oh well, they're only human, and all that. But we did have a few decent attacks, whatever the miserable, grumpy sod that is Alan Hansen said.
They had Clarke Carlisle on MotD2 on Sunday. I think he's headed for a post-playing career in punditry etc. He's very eloquent, very intelligent - and infinitely preferable to the miseryguts duo of Hansen and Lawrenson. And they did do a lot on MotD2 to highlight the good parts of our season so far.
And it could be a lot, LOT worse. We could be Hull (lost 6-1 at Liverpool), or, worse, Portsmouth (played 7, lost 7; the only worse record in the top flight was Manchester United, who lost the first 12 games in 1932 - and, needless to say, got relegated). And we've got more points from a tougher starting fixtures than Blackburn.
