Tomorrow I'm off to the South of France where I will be visiting Lourdes, among other places. I've heard that it can be offputtingly crowded and commercial. Has anyone been there? How can one best go about experiencing the place and not getting lost in the crowds and tacky souvenier stands?

I was browsing the website for Boston's Logan International Airport, and it lists a chapel between Terminals B and C: Our Lady of the Airways. According to what little information I can find, it's run by the Archdiocese (and therefore I know it's legit).
