Weekly goals

Time to set myself some goals, to prevent regret at lack of achievement if nothing else!
  1. Watch The White Queen on iplayer (as many episodes as possible!)
  2. Go swimming at least once, but preferably twice
  3. Bake something - either scones or biscuits (potential Christmas presents - need to practise!)
  4. Do something unselfish...need some help here as I don't ( Read more... )

If you can't do the not thinking one - do the think positively about someone else one. If you want to be really hardcore, think positively about someone you don't like.
As for things to do that are unselfish, Look out for people in need, when you're in the supermarket, ask the old lady if she needs some help with her shopping or something. I saw a lady in the street who was struggling to find and take her inhaler, I initially walked past but went back and asked if she was OK. She was but she was super grateful that someone had noticed and was concerned. The other option is to find your local foodbank and donate something that they need - that may include some time sorting or giving out food.

As for point one - totally but it's difficult cos Pawel isn't interested and our internet is intermittent. However, if i threatened him with Gilmour girls, he'd let me watch whatever I like! :)

Unselfish - there are all sorts of organisations that like volunteers. Conservation? St John's Ambulance? When I had a look, I found I wasn't quite unselfish enough for the commitment they wanted but worth a look.

For #5, I think you need to be more proactive about it.

How is one proactive about being grateful? I do write lists of things to be grateful occasionally but that's as far as I've gone. I don't count volunteering as being unselfish as I enjoy it. I also can't start anything local as I'm moving soon but don't know when.

If you enjoy doing good, I don't think that takes anything away from the unselfishness. You can wear a hair shirt while doing it if it makes you feel better:)

The proactive thing was more about the footnote.

3. I vote you bake on Wednesday & bring the goodies on Thursday ;)

4. BBOWT? Or look for a group who want goodies to sell or something?

I will try but Weds is swimming day so may not have time! Also need to check ingredients...

See above for volunteering - I do that anyway. I wish my stuff was good enough to sell but it isn't. I could volunteer doing something harder and less fun such as old people's home (still fulfilling but not fun in the same way conservation is!).

Regarding volunteering, just because you enjoy it doesn't make it less worthwhile, in fact it makes it more so as you put more into in than you would doing something you don't like (have seen volunteers on conservation days who don't love it - they don't do as much or as well). Also think about it as using your knowedge & abilities to the best of your abilities. Maybe also look at voluntary surveys you could do for BBOWT or others?

We'll still love you without the baking! by the way ;)

I couldn't find golden syrup anywhere so original plan for biscuits is dead, but I am planning to make vanilla fairy cakes :)

I have volunteered for the wildlfower survey but they've been so inundated they haven't even had time to send the info out for it! I will do the reptile thing again next year - meant to this year but they didn't send details so I must need to sign up again. I will also do some conservation volunteering on a monthly basis but still doesn't feel enough! Hmm.
