I've been sort of avoiding the politics hullaballoo lately. I know who I'm voting for and while it is all very fascinating from a political/historical view, I can't actually separate my emotions enough to be able to view all the crap stress free. At some point I started saying that local politics is overlooked and just as important as national politics.
So I'm trying to actually back that talk up. Measure 26-94 will be on the ballot for Portland voters and everyone should vote yes to support it. It passed in 2002 and is up for renewal. Measure 26-94 funds education for Portland programs and very specifically, it funds many programs at my work. It funds parent/child development programs that support and help brand new parents with their new children until they start school, it funds mentoring programs for local schools and it funds many of the SUN (Schools United Neighborhoods) program that has provides afterschool tutoring, classes and activities. The success and impact these programs have on Portland families is huge.
