Tunes and more tunes

Long time no talk... and no CDs either...

I have been on mix CD mental block since about, oh, November, and for awhile it was bugging me, but now I'm just kind of rolling with it. They'll come when they come. Or they won't, and I'll find something new to do with my life ;0) Either way, it'll be alright.

I went to go see The Kooks at Lupo's on Saturday. It had been awhile since I went to a show by myself, and I enjoyed it more than I remembered. I paid the extra couple of bucks for an actual seat in the mezzanine, which gave me a good view and a place to park my cup of pop and my coat, but that also meant that I was One Of The Boring People That Value Creature Comforts Over Total Immersion And Therefore Am A Tool-By-Association. Or so it felt. There weren't so many people getting up and moving around, which meant I sorta felt like a douche for getting up and moving around (mostly I felt bad for the people behind me, because I'm tall and I was down towards the front). But people aside, the show was good :) The first opening band, Yawn, was great and put on a great set. I'm streaming their album right now and will definitely pick up a copy next week when I get paid (public service announcement: Don't steal music. It's mean and counter-productive. Same goes for books, movies, etc. Especially for the more "underground" artists. Feed the people that make your life better!). The second band, The Morning Parade, put on a good show but their music wasn't really anything special in my opinion. It was just kind of generic slick rock. And they seemed to have an extraneous guitarist - he was dressed exactly like Joe Strummer, which kind of irritated me, because I'm superficial like that. Not sure if it was in honor of Joe's pic with the Lupo's T - but seriously - Joe's dead. Make your own mark if you're playing your own music. Or join a punk cover band. Either or.

Anyway.

The Kooks were great, and I had a lot of fun during their set. Luke is a great front man, and the guys really put everything into the set. They ended with my two favorite songs, "Junk of the Heart," and "Naive," so I was stoked. They played a great mix from their albums, and the two-song acoustic set was excellent. I'd love to see them team up with The Fratellis for back to back sets. That would be awesome.

Anyway, again.

It's beautiful outside so I'm going out.
