I've decided that one of the reasons that I love accounting is because its so useful. Right now we're learning about preparing a master budget for a business which computes the budgeted sales, production, direct materials, direct labor, cost budget, budgeted income statement, and budgeted balance sheet. Forms, forms, forms! But I love it because from just a few small numbers you can break things down and create useful, practical, long-term information.
TrashCo is setting up a new benefits plan where we can have our medical insurance pre-taxed and then we can also sign up for an FSA. So following the same design as comparison charts that I've had to work up for my accounting class, I took my last paycheck and figured out exactly how the pre-tax medical plan and the FSA would have effected my paycheck. It was cool. :)
