Try to look for attacks of a type you do not already have. However, direct attack tend to be more expensive. Do you tend to use status ailments and other special effects in battle, or do you favor direct attacks?

That's good advice. Thank you. [ponders the question for a moment] ...We mostly attack directly, but we do like to ready status ailments early on in longer battles.

You could try Toxic. It's stronger than the normal poison effect, from what I can tell. Then again, it wouldn't help against Poison- and Steel-types...

The first wild one I've met lived beyond Ecruteak, and none of the first three Gym leaders use them. The only ones around should be starters and eggs that have recently hatched.
