We turned Dollar in yesterday. There were a few tears when I said good bye to him at the kennel. While we aren't sure he'll make the program, I know that the school will find him a good situation (working or with a family) and he'll be happy with anyone who can show him a little love. It's been wonderful getting to know Dollar and he'll always hold a special place in my heart.
The question everyone asks is: Are you going to raise another puppy? Yes, but I'm not sure that now is the right time. D just got his hours doubled at work and is now the sole trainer there. It's unlikely he would be able to take this puppy during the week. This seems a lot less doable by myself.
Regardless we wouldn't be going with GDD again. We finished up the application process for GDA a few weeks ago and they ok-ed us for a puppy. The local group is bigger, more organized and more instructive then the local GDD group.
Right now I'm thinking I'll ride into work during July (~150 miles/wk) and see how things go. If I really miss puppy and the riding is going well I'll look into getting a DoggyRide (though folds up, I have no IDEA where I'd store it at the lab). I loved having the puppy around but I miss cycling and the time commitment for this is going to go up with GDA.
I think I'm being reasonably pessimistic about raising another puppy in the near future.
