the best birthday

For most of my life I've had pretty crappy birthday. Don't remember so many of the early years, but in middle school when the big thing was slumber parties mine always seemed to fizzled because people would only come for a little while or couldn't make it. High school there weren't really any parties. College was better but they were mostly pretty low key. This year was more than I could have hoped for.

Sunday I went to my mom's and it went well, no fighting or anything, and when I left I didn't walk out the door thinking "thank god that's over." Monday was a little nuts, had to do a stat crossmatch on a heart patient so time was tight plus I was suppose to leave at 2pm. I ended up not leaving until 2:30 because there was a lab meeting and they surprised me with cake. I was a little late picking up Ben from the airport but it was cool. I had to change dinner reservations because Jacques-Imo's had plumbing issues, but we ended up at Cochon instead and everyone seemed to have a good time. My family ended up giving me a new iPod!!!! It's so awesome, haven't gotten to use it much yet, but once I get a new transmitter it'll get a lot more use.

Tuesday morning Ben and I went to Audubon golf course for a reservation that I had made for him. He was supper excited which I was happy about, I was a little nervous about it being my first time playing. It turned out so much better than I expected. A little chilly at first but it turn into such a pretty morning, and I played very well for my first time. I was making the holes in about 7 or 8 strokes, even had a few sweet shots out of the bunkers, and up the hills. I only made it nine holes before I had to eat some food, so we had breakfast at the club house, and after that we skipped the back nine and went and threw the frisbee around at The Fly by the river. Then I drove around up town and showed Ben some of the culture of New Orleans. That night we went to Rock and Bowl for cajun night, it was really empty, but we had fun dancing and play a couple of games.

Yesterday we went down town and did that bit. Checked out the river walk, the french quarter, bourbon street and the other tourist spots. That night Audubon had a viewing of Hurricane on the Bayou for all of the volunteers at the IMAX, so we went to that, and had ice cream with Jess afterwards at Creole Creamery. Today I took him out to the lakefront and showed him around out there.

I really got exactly what I wanted for my birthday, which was to see him, I didn't want him to leave. I miss him already. It's pretty crazy. But I'm going to take him up on his offer to stay in San Francisco. Take a semester that's truly off before I go to grad school. I just need to figure out how I'm going to quit my job.
