So last night I got a call around 10:30 about work. Three donors had come in and Kellie told me that I was going to be taking the two of them that only had one patient each. She said that the patients were do in anytime and that she would call me when the samples were ready. Around 2 am, after a brief nap I called to see what was going on. Kellie said that the patients were in the hospital but the samples weren't ready yet but I should head in. I get there and one of my cases had changed, it was a different patient that now needed a Flow and CDC crossmatch instead of just a CDC XM. I had really rocky start, it took me for ever to get cells in the right concentration and consistency, and it was also my first time ever having two donors at once. I was starting to get really frustrated cause it just wasn't working out, the lab was really warm, I was starting to sweat and I was shaking a bit. Finally all four (two patients and two donors) of the samples were ready around 6:30. Time on the other two test for each patient was also interesting cause I was doing it all at the same time. The results came out pretty good except for one slight hiccup, but at 8:30 the corridnator called wanting results. Taking so long to get cells I was cutting it a little close, but since the samples came in at 3am I should have had til 9am. But Kristi said it was when the patient got in and the one of them had been there sooner. There's nothing I could do cause it takes time to read the test and analyze the results. It still made me more nervous. I get the results, call Jean, the assistant director and tell her the results for the first patient and she says to call them in and I few minutes later I had the results for the second patients and I call those in too. Finally at 9:30am I was able to get out of there after finishing up some paperwork.
So I make it home okay, get in the bathroom for a very long hot shower. By the time I get out it's almost 11am and I'm suppose to be at my mom's for lunch at 1pm. I was to wound to try to sleep, plus there wasn't much time, so I got ready and went to my mom's to celebrate for my birthday. There was the typical kinda craziness, but in all it went pretty well. Actually I finally went for a ride on the motorcycles with my mom and stepfather. It was such a pretty day and I was appropriately dress that I decided to try it. I rode with my stepfather, since mom's fallen a few times. It was pretty cool, not use it so I was a little stiff, but on the whole it was pretty cool. Of course when we got back home mom asked when was I going to learn how to ride. It took me almost 6 months to just be a passenger, don't think I'm any where close to doing it myself.
Around 3pm I was starting to fade fast, so I came home and took a nap. After that dad and I finished doing the last little bit of cleaning around the house. I did some laundry and vacuumed out my car. I still need to wash it, but not sure when that's going to happen. Ben called to see how I was doing, we only talked for a little bit cause the connection was crappy, but at the end I got to tell him I'd see him tomorrow :D much happiness there, after a year and a half I finally get to see him again. And we can see if all these feeling from the past few months still hold in person. Not to concerned about that, but you never know. More I'm just looking forward to getting to spend some time with him and to show him around New Orleans. I love sharing the culture of this city, and he's never been here, so I'm going to try to highlight was makes NOLA such an awesome place, but to also show him some of the issues that are still facing the city.
Ben flies in tomorrow at 3:30. I'm picking him up, should be interesting, not sure if I should just hang back and wait or to run up to him and play the whole big dramatic airport scene. And tomorrow night it's dinner at Jacques-Imo's with a bunch of people. Then 3 days off, much happiness. oh it's just starting to sink in, but I did pretty well on the GRE, maybe not good enough for Ivy League, but good enough to be competitive for fellowships at LSU.
Okay well it's time for me to get to bed. Work in the morning and such.
