I had a bad night last night, because my nose kept stuffing up in my sleep and lack of oxygen doesn't really help efficient rest and all. Urgh. Not really feeling better now.
Since I was in a grumpy mood I did some chores I'd been putting off (because they couldn't make me feel worse, see).
Then I pulled out the half pumpkin I'd picked up for 88c, shoved it in a saucepan with a bit of water, and steamed it until it was easy to clean off the seeds and rind. After that I diced it, put in more water and some seasoning and herbs, and left it to bubble malevolently while I caramelised an articulated onion. It took a while, but the resulting hot brown mush was very tasty. Even with kelp powder, garlic paste, and beef stock powder (about a teaspoon each), it was quite sweet - well, pumpkin usually is, but I think the caramelisation of the onion bits helped. I fried some mushrooms to make it a bit more savoury and yum. There were notes of flavour in there. Subtlety of taste! Also, hot and very filling, and because the pumpkin is quite starchy I didn't bother with cooking some rice for a side. It brightened the misery of my existence.
There's enough for another meal tomorrow.
Will cook again.
