i'm ridiculous
I've never gone so long without an update! Oops! Well, most people should already know my big news, but I'll say it again just in case - I'm leaving June 14th to do Small Enterprise Development in Cameroon, Africa for 2 years with the Peace Corps. :-) I'm really happy about my assignment - it's exactly what I was hoping for. I'll be speaking French mostly for business stuff, and learning a local language for regular life around the village.
So Spring Break went mostly as planned, and I had a great time with Augie and Silver. Then only a week after I got back, my sister Kelly came to visit me for a week. It was great spending lots of time with her and showing her around SF and Berkeley. Then the last weekend in April my grandma and brother (Kyle) came up and we went on a college tour - to Santa Cruz, Humboldt, and here. I really enjoyed my time with them as well. Kyle found out just after that weekend that he got accepted to transfer here!!! I'm so happy for him, cuz he's really turned his life around and been working hard.
I've been spending time with Silver and a few other friends, but not that many. It's a sad fact of life, I guess, that friends don't always stay that way. I'm trying to get used to the idea, but I don't like to give up. I also don't want to be the only one trying, though.
Augie and I have only gotten closer and have had a great time together...it's gonna hurt like a mother when I have to say goodbye to him next Saturday morning. I hate breaking up with someone just cuz I'm leaving, but I know that it's the best option. It definately sucks for awhile, though.
I've been having trouble focusing on school ever since I got my invitation for the Peace Corps. I managed to do what I had to until the end of classes. Tomorrow is my first final (haha - yeah, that's what it took for me to procrastinate and finally update my journal). The other 2 are next Tuesday and Wednesday. My family arrives Thursday, I graduate Friday (May 19th), and then I'm moving home Saturday. YIKES lots going on. I gotta pack, say my goodbyes, and umm...DO WELL ON MY FINALS. Also, I keep doing research about Cameroon and what to bring, etc. It's naughty of me, but I can't help wanting all the info I can get.
So I'll be updating lj more often, but aside from this I'll be sending out email updates. If you didn't get the one I sent a week or two ago, then please leave me a comment with your email address and I'll add you to my address book. :-)
