So I've been to the doctor twice and the hospital once since my birthday. Some peaceful transition to adulthood this has been.
In case I haven't told you, my heart has been beating faster than its normal level, fast enough to make me conscious of my heart beating fast every single second of my waking hours, since 3am the night of my birthday. It hasn't stopped yet. It makes it incredibly difficult to sleep, do normal things like run up and downstairs, and at times to breathe normally. I'm also sick, and not allowed to take decongestants, so that affects the breathing probably more than the heart thing does.
I had an EKG on Saturday morning which found nothing wrong, an X-Ray and bloodwork on Saturday night which found nothing wrong, and bloodwork this morning which will probably find... nothing wrong. Except this one is testing for anemia and something to do with the thyroid, so, awful as it sounds, I sort of hope they find something, just so it can be treated with just some pills or something, instead of "umm... don't get stressed?"
The doctor I saw today was the most helpful, who explained every single chart and test result in an un-condescending way, and was the most optimistic that it was nothing, with examples to back it up, instead of the doctor I saw on Saturday, who just said "well, it doesn't seem to be life-threatening, so, there ya go!" Plus he was the only doctor who actually seemed to believe me. Every time I get my pulse taken and whatnot, it's at a "normal level," so they think that my problem has stopped by the time I've come into the doctor/emergency room, but my pulse rate is lower than the normal rate, so what seems normal is actually high for me. Not life-threatening. But certainly noticeably higher to me.
But they've all told me that it is "very very unlikely" that this is indicative of some serious illness, and doctors always like to suggest serious illnesses as a possibility so I think that that has some merit. My doctor today seemed to think that it's caused by some hormonal shift or something, which can happen over the course of a few days and eventually right itself.
Sigh. Sorry I'm out of commission.
