the coliseum
❦ general information
As the name suggests, the Coliseum is circular in shape and "colossal". A place for fighters to test their mettle and strength, the Coliseum provides a variety of choices in terms of training rooms, a "VD" room, and a shot at the center stage with both large scale tournaments and small scale mini-tournaments. Prizes are available, both in Dream Points (cash) and item awards (weapons). As a bonus, there is even a superb weapons and armor dealer available inside the Coliseum. So do you have what it takes to face the foes only found in Somarium? Who knows, maybe you'll even face one of your rivals in the tournament.
❖ location
Near the northeastern side of the floating mountain, closer toward the edge of the barrier near the desert. The colossal building is set right near the edge of the mountain, so be careful not to fall off! Note: There is a teleportation pad located directly underneath its location on the ground. Characters can use this pad to teleport directly up to the Coliseum outside entrance.
❖ volunteers
While the use of the Coliseum is basically up to player discretion with only minor mod intervention, it is very possible for a player/character to take over and run the Coliseum, provided they stay within the basic guidelines. This includes setting up and holding/announcing tournaments. If you're interested, feel free to drop either mod a line! We have a good number of volunteers at the moment, but slots may open in the future. If you have any questions, contact any of the below listed volunteers or either of us mods.

❖ weapons/armor shop
Ever wanted to upgrade your character's weapon, or just even wanted to buy one? Well want no more, for the Coliseum provides a very nice weapons shop, though the items can be pricey. Everything from the basic to the highly advanced, so long as the character has the cash, it can be bought. The types of weapons available will all be based from every canon currently within Somarium. Yes, you read that right. That means everything from guns to swords to magic wands are available. The only thing was ask is that players don't get carried away when choosing a weapon to buy. Any hax-weapons or anything game breaking will not be available. If you're ever unsure, feel free to ask a mod.
Prices of the weapons range as the following:
- Basic: 400DP - 1,000DP
- Mid-rank: 1,000DP - 100,00DP
- Advanced: 200,000DP - Millions of DP [MUST HAVE MOD PERMISSION]
❖ spectators
Yes, it is possible for characters to randomly watch any fights that are going on. Maybe one of their friends is fighting in one of the monster battles and they want to cheer them on. Seating is free and they can sit anywhere they want. Food is also provided.
❦ coliseum effects
Along with the natural Somarium effects, there are some Coliseum effects that you should be aware of.
❖ power cap
Although there is already a power cap of sorts within Somarium, there is an additional power cap in effect within the Coliseum. This is only for those with supernatural powers that are extremely powerful, and only the ridiculously powered abilities are powered down a few levels.
Characters will still find that they have their abilities at their disposal, but their highest attack may not be as powerful as it usually is. While still dealing a great deal of damage, it may not be as effective as it normally would be, either in canon or in Somarium outside the Coliseum. Instead of killing things in one hit, it may take multiple hits.
Physical abilities will remain unhindered, however, and this includes using a weapon. Only exception may be those who are ridiculously overpowered in terms of strength. Only then will they be limited.
Weapons with special effects will also remain unhindered, provided the weapon also doesn't have some ridiculous effect like one hit killing. But if they provide a status effect, like freezing, poison, weaken, etc., then that's okay.
Basically, what the power cap does is to give all character something of a challenge when going in. What we don't want is characters walking in, enter a tournament or monster battle, and walk out a minute later without even a scratch. That's no fun at all!
❖ strong monsters
The monsters in the Coliseum are a special brand. Excluding the Noctaere, if characters thought the monsters from the desert were strong, they haven't seen anything yet. It seems they have a special "substance" added into them, though what exactly and where they come from is unknown. Whatever this substance is, it greatly increases the attack and defense stats. Any monsters ranked above level 6 will be rather difficult to take down by even the more adept fighters, especially when in a mob.
When it comes to the boss monsters, this will be even more so. These suckers will be very difficult to defeat, and will take many blows to defeat them. What makes them even more difficult is the fact that they can regenerate. That's right, these monsters can heal themselves if given enough time. So strategy and having the right equipment will be key.
❖ death
Whether or not a character can die in the Coliseum depends on the route they choose. Most will be set to the NO DEATH default, however, it is possible to change it so that the DEATH setting is in effect. This is how both works:
- [NO DEATH]: If this is set, a character does not "die" after receiving a fatal blow. Instead, the character goes into a "KO" state and is carried out by NPC attendants to a healing area. After the first "KO", a character can go back and fight again from the beginning after a few hours of healing. However, should they be "KO"'ed again, the character will not be able to do the battle again and will have to try again the next day. Note: All training/practice areas have NO DEATH, unless there is some freak accident.
- [DEATH]: If this is set, a character will die after receiving a fatal blow. They will suffer the same death penalties as listed in the Complete Guide.
- Note: The deaths do not stack. That is, if your character dies once in the Coliseum, returns again some time later and dies again, they will not suffer the second death penalty.
- This is only in the Coliseum. Should the character die again outside the Coliseum, then they would suffer the second or more death penalty.
- Don't get carried away. If your character winds up dying more than three times in a reckless fashion, then the character will suffer more weaknesses and death penalty effects. The DEATH setting is to help cement the "high risk" factor of certain fights so that characters will think before suddenly plowing in (unless that's what they do ICly, then plow away).
If you're wondering how this is even possible, just think about the pregnancy protection: it's all magical.
❦ types of battles
There are a variety of different battle types characters can choose. From training, to fun, to battles to the death, there are all sorts available -- with prizes!
❖ tournaments
Large scale tournaments will be held every once in a while, possibly once a month. In these tournaments, characters will sign up to either fight each other in several rounds of fighting, or have a shot at one of the most powerful monsters found only in Somarium. There will always be a cash prize of 100,000DP. It is also possible for characters to throw their own tournament and utilize the Coliseum resources, so you don't have to always wait for us to make an announcement! Just double check with any of the players who are also helping run the Coliseum.
❖ monster battles
These can be done at any time. There are 3 different types of monster battles a character can choose from. The only difference is how many rounds the character goes through, how many and difficult the monsters are, and the prizes. Weaker monsters will always appear first, and the stronger ones appear in the subsequent later rounds. "Boss" monsters are random.
By default, there is NO DEATH, but this can be changed. Also, the POWER CAP is on, but this can be changed to an even more restricted setting where characters can only use their natural talents instead of enhanced abilities.
- THREE-MONSTER CHAIN: This is the low-level route. All the monsters are ranked from level 1 to level 3, and the number of monsters in each round vary from 1 to 4. There is no boss in this chain, only a large mob of 6 monsters. Most low-level to mid-level fighters should be able to clear this with little difficulty, and great for a warm-up or practice.
- PRIZES: Up to 100DP and a fruit basket OR a decent weapon and a fruit basket.
- CAP: There is a cap of 300DP and one weapon per day. The fruit basket is limitless.
- FIVE-MONSTER CHAIN: This is the mid-level route. All monsters are ranked from level 2 to 6. The first 4 rounds will have small groups of monsters, usually in 3s. There is a level 6 solo boss monster in the fifth round. This chain should only be done by the stronger fighters.
- PRIZES: Up to 500DP OR a solid weapon.
- CAP: There is a cap of 1000DP and one weapon per day.
- TEN-MONSTER CHAIN: This is the hard-level route. Only experienced fighters will be able to make it through. All monsters are ranked from level 5 to 10. Except for the final round, the monsters will be grouped in random numbers with the weaker levels coming first. The final round will hold a level 12 boss monster. Depending on the monster, it may summon weaker leveled minions, or it might come with a small group.
- PRIZES: Up to 1,000DP, name on the list, bragging rights, and a very nice weapon.
- CAP: Can only receive awards once per day.
❖ special stage
With this setting, the arena will "change" depending on the character's canon. The setting will alter to either look like a place from just one of the characters, or it can be some unholy mash up between the characters involved. However, not only can the setting change, but other things can be included that characters could use in a fight. Random weapons, items, health potions, traps, effects, etc., can be randomly thrown in. Think Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Only stipulation is players should not get carried away, and items will only be thrown in by a random NPC. If you choose this route, let either the mods or anyone that's helping run the Coliseum know so they can assist. This is mostly for fun, so NO DEATH by default.
❖ one-on-one
Want to fight against someone? Or even a group of people you know? It's possible to book the arena for a certain time just for that. There are also a couple of choices the fighters have in terms of how the arena will work:
- TO THE DEATH? Fighters have the option to either have the battle a fight to the death or just a major duel. By default it will be set to NO DEATH.
- TRADITIONAL. In a traditional fight, the arena is clear of any possible impediments and it's just the two fighters against each other. They can use the arena in any way they want, including the natural structures, but it's very basic.
- SPECIAL STAGES. Instead of the basic arena, characters can choose to have the Special Stage setting instead. Everything within the Special Stage setting will be available to them, except the items.
- ANYTHING GOES. This is the ONLY place, I repeat, ONLY place where the power cap is mostly off. Any game breaking powers will still not be allowed, but anything other than that -- strong spells, hax skills, etc. -- is free game. This should only be reserved for those who are very strong and should not be abused. If by chance a very weak character finds themselves up against something close to a god, they have the option to cancel out and flee. The moment they decide that, the power cap will automatically be set back on, even if the character is already in motion.
- EVERYTHING GONE. The opposite of "ANYTHING GOES", characters will only have their fists and natural strength for this kind of match. It is an au naturale option. That means no spells, no special abilities, and no magic of any kind are permitted; all are suppressed. Characters must rely on what their body can handle naturally. This is the traditional Fight Club-esque of battles, stripped down to fists and steel only.
❖ basic training area
Need a place to work your skills or work out? The basic training area has physical training dummies and targets that characters can use. There's an unlimited supply of replacements for the dummies and targets, so feel free to go crazy. There is also a gym nearby that characters can also utilize if they need a work out.
❖ "virtual dreaming" training room
Based off the Metal Gear Solid
VR Training room, characters can utilize this underground training room to help train themselves without any fear of death or, better still, looking like a fool in public. Here are most of the features:
- SPECIAL ENVIRONMENT. The VD room works very similar to the Special Stages in that it will create an environment based on the character's canon. If there is more than one person, it can either be just one of the characters, or can be an unholy mash up of the two.
- VIRTUAL FOES. Characters can fight virtual forms of monsters or random people. They will feel pain if hit, but they won't die. If they were to receive what would have been a fatal blow, instead of being KO'ed they would just fall back in a daze and the program will "freeze". The character will have to "restart" the program to continue.
- RANDOM CHALLENGE. The program will basically randomly select different foes and tasks for the character to do.
- TIMER. While there's no actual limited time period, characters can set a sort of timer to give themselves a challenge. The program will automatially end when either the character completes the challenge within the alotted time or whenever time runs up.
- HANDICAPS. If your character wants more of a challenge, they can set some kind of handicap on themselves. Weakness, restricted powers/abilities, whatever you can think of.
