Sands of Time
Word count: 150
“In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes.” - Benjamin Franklin

Dorian stood at the neat rectangular hole in the ground. The whole of the Eroica gang alongside him at the solemn ceremony, giving what support they could. No one knew what to say. Words seemed so inadequate.

“The sands of time move on without us if we don’t do something about it,” he recalled saying. It had sounded so romantic at the time, and annoyed the Major no end. Now it sounded hollow.

The box was slowly lowered into the ground. Then all eyes turned to him-expectant.

Dorian sighed heavily, taking a small step forward. He had been racking his brain to come up with the appropriate words, and still he was coming up blank. He heard a small sob and looked up, seeing James peeking over his handkerchief, his eyes bright red from tears.

Again, Dorian sighed. What the hell do you say when a Casio mini dies?
