So I got myself a new screen saver that really has me excited. Someone has a site called…
http://smallblockscreensaver.com/default.aspxThe owner of the site, he likes engines. So much so that he has actually modeled all the bits in a Chevy LS6 Small block and the larger Vortec Big Block in Solidworks. Then he went so far as to animate the process of building it, much the same way that it would normally be but together. Then he went as far as to make the animation into a screensaver.
I love it so much I turned up the screen saver ignition time to a minute, and lengthened the time before the screen stand by kicks on. Now I sometimes walk away from the computer just to have the animation come on. I love car people.
Speaking of small blocks, If I get a 350ci engine with matching numbers to the rest of the car, I think I have to keep the engine in some capacity. I could take the engine out and swap in a crate engine but that will cost a lot more then stroking it. The idea I had with a 350 small block was to bore out the cylinders to displace it to a 383ci displacement and then stroke that to get my 500+ horses. But if you bore the engine that matches the car I am pretty sure that that negates the value of having matching pieces. I think I might just have to stroke the 350 block and then NOS it up.
On other thoughts, I really don’t have a problem with fueling my car. It is not that the cost hurts, but to me it is like expending money for food. It is an essential thing. And I don’t really try to conserve it any either. I mean if I am doing a moderate amount of driving in a day I will expect to burn through a quarter a tank of gas, about twelve litres worth of petro. The reason I burn through that much is I am full willing to hammer on Valerie’s throttle from launches or in the passing lane. I know it kills my economy but I just love the drive so much. I have to admit, I drive pretty fast… not reckless as I understand the limits of my Pontiac baby but I will trek Crowchild at 110kph without a second thought, and accelerate through corners where most cars hit the brakes. I realized recently though that I do this kinda thing not out of any need to be anywhere at any particular time. There isn’t anywhere I need to be on time anymore really. Instead it is just the thrill of the drive.
I have always enjoyed being connected to the car, to the road, shepherding other cars around me to suite my traffic needs. It is always the better when I have a girl sitting shotgun that I can play with my right while the rest of me works to keep the car moving in the way that I like it to. Usually in that situation, the car gets more excitable too and gets going a little faster too. You give me a car, it doesn’t have to be a performer, but something well balanced with speed and agility and suddenly the world washes away. There is me, el camino and my music. I love having that release.
Hell I love it so much I have though of being a taxi driver, but I am not sure all my passengers would be impartial to my style of driving. I think after Valerie as my daily driver car, I will want to go into something bigger. I like having weight to throw around on the road. Zippy little hatchbacks never suited me. I rather a boat that floats in corners to one of those. I have to admit I like the Pontiacs. Yeah they are criticized for cheap plastics and large gaps in the body work but they got it where it counts in the legs and the heart. Maybe a nice new Pontiac G8 with a fancy new V8 motor. Or maybe it is time to upgrade to a Chevy. I really like the late model Monte Carlo SS. They are some really clean looking cars. Then again an Impala would be nice too maybe I will wait for the General to switch them to RWD before I pick one up. I definitely want a V8. Fuck what it costs in gas, for the feeling I get from driving, I am willing to put out a bit of extra coin to keep her belly full.
