Had an awesome visit with the Teen Council at the
Sherman Oaks branch of the LAPL. I talked Boy Proof and Women in Science Fiction. I finally got it together and bought a bunch of glossy 8 x 10's at
Hollywood Book and Poster (I still need to get a million more but it was a good start) of women in sci-fi movies to show and it went off swimmingly. Teens Smart Cool Thoughful Participating = Fun!
While I was there, I noticed that they had lobby cards and I picked up a few for Steve for his birthday. He was having a 1979 soft rock party and I wore a halter top vintage pants suit and shook my booty to the Captain and Tennille. Oh, yeah. Feels so good.
Yesterday,
Liza Palmer and I finally hung out after like a million years and we drove up the PCH and stared at the ocean and then saw
The Presitge. (you should go see it, too) (that Chris Nolan knows how to make movies)
Naturally, magicians remind me of my failed attempt with Steve to go to the
Magic Castle. Le Sigh. One day I'll get to go behind the bookshelf door.
For those of you interested in knowing more about
Jim Rugg, the fabulous artist that I'm collaborating on The Plain Janes with (pick up his
Street Angel comic) he's interviewed at
Newsarama. Speaking of Newsarama, Brian Wood (
brianwood ) (pick up his
DMZ - love!) kindly mentions Boy Proof in his
holiday gift giving related blurb, (all the lists are pretty awesome and I've written a bunch of things down - to buy for myself! ) but I'll tell you that as a t-shirt junkie, you should totally grab up some of his
super cute t-shirts designs for the holiday gift giving.
Also, I know you support Intellectual Freedom like I do, so here is a
great speech by librarian Diane Kitchen.
And also
Matt Cheney writes a great essay about
What Is Appropriate on the The Quarterly Conversation Reading blog. (thanks
