What in the **** is going on in the Justice department. I don't tend to talk about politics here, though I certainly have my strong opinions, but that goes above and beyond. Beyond the uncouth nature of badgering a very very ill man (like Ashcroft or not) there are constitutionally enforced limits on the executive branch. That's at the very heart of our government. Hell, it used to be a big deal if the President thought it was something they would like to do but still wasn't included in their role. Both Madison and Polk vetoed internal improvement bills they liked, which had items like important roads, as oposed to our bridges to nowhere. Oh, well. We still fix, if we work at it.
In happier political news it looks like New Jersey, may be moving to abolish the death penalty. The state senate is holding hearings about replacing it with life without parole. That would be a huge measure, making New Jersey the first state to abolish the Death Penalty since its federal reinstatement in '77.
