Getting sucked into reality TV on New Year's Day

I'm on call, so I was stuck at home on New Year's Eve/Day. I've done some reading & knitting & way too much TV watching to pass the time. On the very plus side, I didn't have any pages, so I didn't turn on the work computer until this morning. And oy, do I have a ton of work email to go through, what with being off for two weeks.

On the TV watching: yesterday I watched the Rose Bowl Parade for a bit & then I flipped over to Bravo to see what was playing there. They were starting a "Biggest Loser" marathon, and for no particular reason, I left it on. And on. And on. For those who have never heard of it, Biggest Loser is a reality TV show where various obese people are sent to a ranch to lose weight. I'm not sure why I got caught up in it - I'm sure a large part of it was I was too lazy to change the channel ;-). Anyhow, it was somewhat inspiring to watch all these people struggle to lose weight (and to see the remarkable difference between the first episode and the finale), but I don't think I'll be making that must-see TV whenever it comes back again. There was way too much annoying host (Caroline Rhea), far too many 'dramatic' commercial breaks during the weigh-ins, & endless repetition. Everytime they came back from a commercial break, they played at least the last 30 seconds that had aired before commercial & at the 30 minute mark there was an asinine summary of what had occurred in the past 30 minutes. A one day binge of "The Biggest Loser" I could deal with, but a steady diet would drive me up a wall.

Anyhow, Happy New Year everyone... I sincerely hope your New Year's Eve & Day were hellaciously more exciting than mine ;-).
