This is a hairdresser complaint. If you don't give a shit about my hair, you probably should stop reading now. (this is a cross post from my Blurty)
I don't have very stringent requirements for my hairdresser. I want one who doesn't feel mortally offended that I don't talk a lot - if there's a chance for me to sleep, like as not I'm going to take it. I also prefer that I not leave the salon looking like a five-year-old boy. If the hairdresser came recommended by a friend (as my current one did), so much the better. And that's pretty much all I ask of a hairdresser. I'm starting to think I should demand one thing more: a little bit of speed.
I seem to have a phenomenal instinct for finding hairdressers who believe that their entry into the kingdom of heaven is dependent on just how meticulously they cut or color my hair. Now, it's not like I come out of the salons looking like Greta Garbo or anything - my hair usually looks pretty nice, but nothing spectacular. But as far as I can tell, my hair usually looks pretty nice a good thirty minutes before the hairdresser is done tweaking things. This is part of why I usually let my hair get to the unkempt muss stage before I make an appointment - I know I'm going to be there at least 90 minutes (usually 2 hours) and I just can't be bothered to set that much time aside.
Today was the worst. I had an appointment for a cut & some highlights at 3pm. I left with my hair in nice shape (the color is pretty although not quite as light as I'd like & the cut is attractive although a little shorter than I'd expected) four hours later. Four hours! Argh. I really should find someone who takes a little less time - I don't think the cut will suffer that much. Unfortunately I know my hairdresser at this point and I like her and I'd feel guilty for leaving her just because she takes her (and my) time.
