Boxcar

While biking to work yesterday morning, I had to pause for a few minutes for a long train chugging through the isthmus. Long trains aren't rare but they aren't exactly common in Madison since it's never had much industry. Beautiful morning and the sun shone off the lake behind me. As I sat on my bike a few feet from the train, I read all the graffiti and looked at the massive metal parts. An open and empty boxcar passed me near the end, and I had the urge to drop everything and jump on.

Next summer I am going to do a roadtrip, or bike across the country, or hitchhike, meet new people, admire strange places big and small, and do some camping. It's sad how I haven't done any real backpacking since 1999.
