I love the B-52's, too! While "Love Shack" isn't my favourite song of theirs, this is one of my favourite videos! I mean -- come on! RuPaul, and Sarah in the tub, and Kate's wild dancing and outfits, and Fred looking so much like Clinton Kelley it's scary, and I LOVE the fact that Fred Just Can't Sing and they don't CARE!!!

O_O I never noticed that until you mentioned it. Though Kelly wouldn't be caught DEAD in Fred's clothing, oh no he wouldn't. (Has a very well-worn copy of "Freakin' Fabulous" on the shelf -- how to look good AND make killer Hollandaise sauce, the man is multitalented!)

This x1,000,000,000! He really, really can't, poor thing.

Butting in to say...
The Germans have a word for it! :) In fact, they have two - sprechgesang and sprechstimme (I'm not entirely sure which category Fred falls into because I have NFI if he's actually doing anything with pitch or not, heh). Personally, I've always just called such a thing "Rex Harrison-ing" because, you know, Rex Harrison in musicals. :D :D
Ooo, thanks for that link! But what Fred does would in NO way, shape, or form be considered "operatic." XD
Rex Harrison in musicals.
*snort* There's a reason he only TALKED to the animals. ;)
eta: Just listened again, and . . . he DOES seem to attempt pitch changes in certain passages, but doesn't . . . quite . . . make it. Points for trying, though. ;)

That IS my all-time favorite B-52s song . . . and yeah, you don't wanna know what my iTunes play count is on that one, 'cause it's embarrassing.
