Hello Sweeties! Happy Weekend and Happy Memorial Day, tomorrow for my US flisters!
This of late has been one of my sadest of holidays. Not only is it important to me to remember the deeds and sacrifices that our heros have made for our freedom, it also brings memory of my father. I think I posted his picture that I found at my Mom's when I first arrived in Alb.; he was accepting his Silver Star medal for heroism from a General Officer. That medal was stolen from my Mom long ago, but I have a duplicate and the original box sitting on my bureau along side the Purple Heart that he received for his injury. I'm told his company was in a precarious position and many were dying. He risked his life by running up to the opening of a bunker to throw a grenade in the hole...saving the lives of those that were left. He was wounded in the act when a piece of shrapnel hit him in the neck and the emotional scars haunted him until they finally claimed his life at the very young age of 36.
I try not to focus on that for long on this holiday, though I feel it is important to reflect on it for a while. It can also be one of my favorite holidays; it is the beginning of summer and I always love to sit and watch the Indy 500. And this year, I will watch the screen ever so closely in case I see our sweet archer,
laurelin! ;)
I'll be packing today as well! Tomorrow I fly to Orlando!! *bounces*
Gosh, it's been a while since I've been in here...It has been a very long and exhausting two weeks at work in preparation for this trip. And I got very sick on top of it. :( It wasn't anything I caught, no bug or virus. My allergies have been pretty bad since we moved here, but I was just about to the point where they weren't too bad; my medicine was working pretty well along with the immunotherapy shots. I still had some minor congestion, but I was feeling pretty well...until I went into a restaurant restroom one night. I don't know if they spilled some bleach in there or if they just used way too much to clean. I didn't think it would hurt me as I closed the door and sat down. But as I was doing my thing, I realized, "this is not good"! I could not breathe! I covered my nose and mouth with my sweater and rushed out of there as fast as I could, but it was too late; the bleach had irritated my throat and lungs. It was so bad, my daughter even smelled it on my clothes twenty minutes later!
That night and all the next day, I was coughing and extremely sore and tired, like the way you feel when a bad cold first begins to settle in. The second day, I was worse and had lost my voice so I went to the doctor. He gave me an asthma inhaler and some cough syrup and told me it would probably take weeks for my lungs to heal. Then by the third day, the congestion really settled in and I ended up missing some work. It has gradually improved since then and every day I feel a little bit better. Now I'm at the point where I feel I can go on this trip and do okay, but I'm taking some antihistamine for the flight just to be on the safe side.
I kept meaning to call that restaruant manager to let her know what happened. Well, I did call her once but she wasn't in. But I've been so busy or just didn't feel good so I never got around to it. I really should though, because they could have seriously hurt someone if they were less healthy as me. Maybe I'll take her number with me and call from Orlando if I get the chance.
This trip will be pretty intense, I've signed up for eight workshops; some are refreshers on fiscal law (spending government funds) and can be very dry and boring. I've taken them before and ended up sleeping through half of them. lol But this time I really need to pay attention. I have a coworker who is always pressuring me to spend money on things that are illegal. I need the ammo to back me up when I say 'no'. lol He's really a good guy and his intentions are for the benefit of our organization, but some things we just cannot do and I have to make him understand. ;)
In other news, my daughter just moved out again so my Hubby and I are alone again. It's going to be very quiet around here. She promises to visit, but living an hour away, I suspect I won't see her much. :(
My Hubby and I just watched a marathon of the Indy films in preparation to see the new movie. I doubt we'll get out to see it for a few weeks though, with this trip and all.
Oh! and I did get my tickets to see the Space Shuttle lift off on the 31st!! *bounces* My Hubby won't be able to make it out there, so I'll have to find someone else to go with me, but I'm sure I won't have any problems with that. Oh, I hope they don't end up cancelling the flight! These tickets are non-refundable. ;(
Well, I've rambled on enough...now to see if I can get to some of your posts! ;)
Hugs and Kisses to all my flisters! :)
