The soldier says that he was lied to by Poroshenko and the Ukrainian officials who sent him to be slaughtered at Debalcevo. He says that the milita fighters didn't finish him off but instead saved his life and brought him for treatment, which is why he is still alive. In the end the "Ghost" brigade gave him back to the Ukrainian side so that he has a chance to keep his eye. He wasn't exchanged - they just returned him without demanding anything back from the Ukrainians.
