Day 03 - Your parents, in great detail

My biological mother - Penny.  Blond hair is really the only thing that stands out in my memory.  She left shortly after I was born.  When I was four she came back and tried to take me from my dad.  It was a custody battle that was for the year pretty messy.  Because she had friends with Child Services, they were always stopping by for about six months.  My dad had a practicing coven at the time as well as a collection of snakes, both of which were being used by Penny as reasons that I should be removed from his custody.

The snakes by the way were all non-poisonous constrictors, all kept in aquariums with mesh lids locked in place.  It was rare that any of them were taken out and handled.  I was taught snake safety as soon as I could wander around, and respected my reptilian brethren.  I actually miss those snakes a lot.

Anyways, the director of Child Services finally realized what was going on (even in 1978 they're only in a person's home once or twice.) He cut her off from their services.  The court appearances I don't remember, but must have been pretty traumatic.  It took a couple of years before anyone who even looked like her could get near me without me going into a fit.

I met her a few times afterwards.  Almost always ending in disappointment.  As in, she'd come for my birthday, and promise me some great toy - and end up bringing a handful of leaves scooped from the gutter.  That sort of thing.  It also became a ritual of mine to ask her why she left in the first place.  I never got the same answer twice.

Shortly after my birth she had another boy who I played with a couple of times.  and later she had a daughter who contacted me a couple of times, but my exposure to her other kids was always prodded by her.

My Dad - My dad is a very interesting person, which makes my relationship with him very difficult.  He is my height, originally with Black curly hair that has now gone white.  Think Tom baker. Even recent photos of Tom Baker are close to what he looks like now.

My dad is one of those over the top sort of people.  He tries his hand at a skill and he either is madly successful at it or simply cannot do it.   Despite a crippling level of dyslexia he learns from reading mostly.  Which means about the only thing he reads is materials that will teach him something.  Any other reading he does is for research into his pet projects.
He was a biochemist back in the day.  But after getting chemically poisoned there he did nothing but trade work of various kinds.

He is self-absorbed, selfish, Egotistical, highly self-entitled, and a general pain in the ass.  He is also completely paranoid.  And lately because of his multiple health problems he's also depressed and irritable.  He also has a very bad habit of making enemies of everyone he meets.

His "research" has been into religious magic, vampire myths, fairy myths, and government conspiracies.   Yes, he is one of those.  He has come up with some interesting nuggets of info in the past.

And then there's my stepmother Karen.  She's a Tolkien fan and a complete nerd.  She works at a public library which is convenient for her.  You know the phrase "Crawled into the bottle"? she does that with fantasy books.
