Since I seem to have temporarily frightened people by posting Superman's moving last respects to Dan Tuprin last night, I thought I'd enlighten those who didn't recognize it by posting it here. You really need to see the entire two-part episode Apokolips...Now! (and likely other episodes in the series) to appreciate this clip, but I'll try to do it justice.
Darkseid, evil lord of the dystopian planet Apokolips, has defeated Superman. He declares both his lordship over Earth and his plans to make humanity his slaves, assuming that with their savior defeated, humanity will accept fate with his a broken spirit. However, Metropolis Special Crimes Unit inspector Dan Turpin rallies the citizens of Metropolis in an angry rebellion, refusing to be defeated quietly. After Darkseid's plot is foiled by the arrival of external protectors, Darkseid murders Turpin just before leaving Earth. Overcome with grief, Superman vents his rage by loudly destroying Darseid's now abandoned vehicle, repeatedly sinking blow after blow into the mass of twisted metal until he breaks down and mourns the loss of his brave friend.
The following clip follows a a Jewish prayer to mourn the dead called a kaddish at Turpin's funeral.
