Went to see Kingdom of Heaven this afternoon, let's face it, to leer at Orly.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. As with all Ridley Scott films there was a lot of spectacle, and as Janty Yates was involved, the costumes were sumptuous. I couldn't help thinking, as I looked at all that chain mail, and quilted jackets, that they must have been about dead from heat exhaustion. Orly was surprisingly good - showing he can do more than look pretty. And I was surprised to see good old Dr Bashir there amongst the cast. Talking of which everyone did very well, from David Thewlis, to Liam Neeson who we didn't see nearly enough of.
My suspension of disbelief wobbled a bit when I felt I was being asked to believe that Orly went from being a simple blacksmith to being a literate leader and all round good egg in a very short space of time. However, I think the timescale we were shown had to be drastically shortened, and I reckon to be realistic in terms of travel times alone, the movie must have covered a period of a couple of years at least.
The anti fundie message was a bit laboured in places, but not overly so.
