I've dropped off the map as of late. I haven't read my friends page in like a month. If I missed anything important please let me know.
This is going to be a long one so . . .
A lot has gone on in the past 2 months since my last post. I'm only going to go into some of the more recent events but even then there's a lot to cover just in the last 2 weeks. I decided to include a handy TOC so you don't have to read all but the sections you're interested in. These are in chronological order not order of importance:
Photos Of The Family I Gave Notice At Work Cooper Turned One We Landscaped Our Backyard Photos Of The Family
The Sunday before last (June 10th) we met up with
tyrven to take some
family pictures at the Bothell Landing. Almost exactly a year prior he took some
pregnancy photos for us in the same location. It's interesting comparing similar photos such as
this one and
this one from a year earlier. Time flies.
I Gave Notice At Work
Last Thursday I gave notice at work. Giving notice itself went fairly well and thus far everyone I've talked to has been pretty understanding about the whole thing. I feel kind of bad leaving my already overworked and often under-appreciated team but you've gotta do what you've gotta do. Or something. My last day is on the 29th.
But that's not the really exciting (and terrifying at the same time) part. The really exciting/terrifying part is that after much discussion and much consideration I will be trying my hand at freelancing. I will be working for a friend's company and there is currently work lined up for at least 3 - 6 months. During that time I will be trying to line up additional sources of income. Best case scenario I make more money and have the freedom to set my own hours, work on what I want to work on, take vacations when I want to take vacation, have time to work on side projects, and can potentially work from anywhere with an internet connection. Worst case scenario I have to go get a "real" job again (and possibly drain savings and sell the car to cover the mortgage if it gets that bad). There are a lot of loose ends that I need to tie up prior to leaving my current gig though so I expect to be rather busy the next couple weeks.
Todo:
- buy a desktop computer to work on
- health insurance for me and my family
- get business license (suggestions on names are appreciated)
I may also start a blog about my experience moving to freelance. I should get that started. Again, any naming suggestions are appreciated.
Cooper Turned One
Last Friday Cooper turned one. Which is insane. The last year has kind of been a huge blur. Holli's mom, step-dad, little sister (who is doing really well), and step-brother came into town for his birthday and to help out with our paver project (see below). We didn't make a huge event out of his birthday but we did have ice cream and open presents. he didn't really get the whole opening presents thing but he sure liked playing with his new stuff. Unfortunately instead of blowing out his candle he tried to grab it suddenly and burned his fingers a little bit.
In addition over the weekend he got his first haircut. It was just a trim up around the sides with clippers but he looks much less like a baby and more like a little kid now. It's insane. Pictures to come.
We Landscaped Our Backyard
Last weekend we did a major landscaping project. Those of you who have been to our house no doubt saw the huge weeds we had growing back there. After a couple days of really hard work from a bunch of different people we replaced our weedy dirt backyard with a courtyard/patio. Over those two days we moved around 20k lbs of material (pavers, dirt, gravel, sand). It looks really good and I can't wait to have stuff growing in the
turf stone stripe we put down. Pictures to come.
