Dec 3rd - mews1945 Tell me what you see as Sam's life journey during the ten seasons of Supernatural, and how you think his character has changed.
I think it’s a journey of acceptance… accepting that he’s never going to have a normal life. He was a reluctant hero, pulled away from the normal life that he wanted so badly. But like he said in season 1, even at Stanford, he knew that that he didn’t fit in. And instead of running away, he looked for answers, as the mystery of his destiny unfolded in the first five seasons. He was able to endure all the challenges his destiny put him through… sacrificing himself so Lucifer could be locked up for good, and then dealing with all the challenges that came after he returned from hell. And now, I feel like he’s in a place where he’s very clear about what’s important to him. He’s embraced his life as a hunter, and he’s happy to be on the road with Dean. Sometimes, the writers have taken Sam places that don’t make sense, like the first half of season 8… but thankfully, he’s way past that now, and I love seeing how fiercely protective he is of Dean this season.
