Malice in Wonderland --- Alice/Whitey --- My Whitey Knight

Feb 18, 2010 18:23

Medium: Movie
Fandom: Malice in Wonderland
Subject: Alice/Whitey
Title: My Whitey Knight
Warnings: SPOILERS FOR ALICE/WHITEY'S RELATIONSHIP THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE
Notes: So, I know that in the leadup to the release of Burton's Alice in Wonderland that there are a lot of variations on Alice in Wonderland coming out in an attempt to compete with it, but there are really only two that have captured my imagination enough to warrant a fanmix; one being Syfy's Alice, which is worth the watch purely for Andrew Lee Potts as the amazing Hatter and a chance to see an interpretation of a Wonderland that's evolved from the classic tale in the same way our world has evolved, and the other is a little movie called Malice in Wonderland. While it's only an hour and a half long, it's a fantastically dark take on the Alice story, with nods to the original elements of the story here and there. Set in the North East of England - *is a Geordie girl and proud of it* - this is a whole new Wonderland. The White Rabbit is a smooth-talking London cab driver, the Mad Hatter runs a mobile brothel, Caterpillar's a drug dealer driving around getting stoned in his fantastically shiny car with his Hooker (or Hookah, whichever you prefer. She's still a cool little character ^_^), and the Queen and King of Hearts have been combined into a devilishly insane mob boss newly released from jail (you'll understand how he's also the Queen on watching =P). My favorite thing about Malice without a doubt is the relationship between Alice and Whitey, and how it develops throughout the movie. I came up with this through having my iPOD quietly on shuffle in the background the first time I watched this, so some of the songs might not 100% fit, but they're part of the general feeling I had while watching these parts of the movie =P Hope you guys enjoy, and I definitely say this is worth the watch!

1.        Uprising by Muse
The paranoia is in bloom, the PR
The transmissions will resume
They'll try to push drugs
Keep us all dumbed down and hope that
We will never see the truth around
(So come on!)

Another promise, another scene, another
A package not to keep us trapped in greed
With all the green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined

Alice and Whitey meet for the first time after he accidentally knocks her down.

2.        Follow Me Down by 3OH!3
Take me take me outta here it makes me
Feel so, feel so na na nana na
Baby baby here we all crazy
You don’t have to worry na na nana na

So follow me down, out of this town
Girl you’re moving way too slow
So follow me down, I’ll show you around
There’s a place we gotta go

Whitey’s late for his delivery, so he’s got no choice but to take Alice “down the rabbit hole” with him.

3.        The Red by Chevelle
They say freak
When you're singled out
The red. It filters through
So lay down, the threat is real
When his sight goes red again

Seeing red again, this change
He won't contain.
Slip away to clear your mind.

Alice meets Gonzo for the first time, and finds out just how dangerous this Wonderland can be.

4.        Mr Pinstripe Suit by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Well now friends let me tell you about this cat that I once met,
Smooth talker with an export cigarette
I don't believe I ever saw him without a cocktail in his hand
and he always swings hard to the big bad voodoo band!

Now he strolls through the city like a big ol' alley cat,
with his pinstripe suit and a big bad voodoo hat
I don't believe I ever saw him without a kitten on his hand
and he always swings hard to the big bad voodoo band!

After her “Whitey Knight” comes to her rescue for the first time, Alice learns about Harry Hunt and the battle to buy his favour now he’s out of prison.

5.        Vanilla Twilight by Owl City
The stars lean down to kiss you,
And I lie awake I miss you.
Pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere.
'Cause I'll doze off safe and soundly,
But I'll miss your arms around me.
I'd send a postcard to you dear,
'Cause I wish you were here.

I watch the night turn light blue.
But it's not the same without you,
Because it takes two to whisper quietly,
The silence isn't so bad,
Till I look at my hands and feel sad,
'Cause the spaces between my fingers
Are right where yours fit perfectly.

Whitey tries to help Alice figure out who she is since the crash gave her temporary amnesia.

6.        Dancing by Elisa
Time is gonna take my mind
And carry it far away where I can fly
The depth of life will dim my temptation to live for you
If I were to be alone silence would rock my tears
'cause it's all about love and I know better
How life is a waving feather

So I put my arms around you around you
And I know that I believe and soon
My eyes are on you they're on you
And you see that I can't stop shaking

Whitey leaves Alice at a bus stop so she can get back to London and to ensure she isn’t dragged into this dangerous world any more than she already has been.

7.        We Are Broken by Paramore
Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And all the promise we adored
Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole

After Caterpillar and Hookah give her a lift to Duchy Mansion, Alice begins to repair her fractured memories and piece together just what she was running from when she first met Whitey.

8.        Lonely For Her by Jack’s Mannequin
I'm uneasy, And I'm weak in the knees
And I'm trying not to breathe
Not believing, Not believing you're gone
And that I was the one to let you

I'm so, I'm so lonely for her
I'm so, I'm so lonely for her
So lonely for her

Alice is the daughter of a billionaire, and there’s a ten million dollar reward up for grabs if she’s returned home safely. The money is greatly tempting of course, but Whitey knows that once people figure out who Alice is, then she’s in an incredible amount of danger...

9.        We’re All Mad by Natasha Bedingfield
Because, we're all mad in our own way
Colours paint the grey away
Different people all the same
Each reveals the meaning
We're all mad in our own way
Fill the sky with different shades
Read the story on each page
Each reveals the meaning

Whitey and Alice are reunited as she escapes Hattie’s mobile brothel, and she proclaims everyone here insane. Of course they are, this is Wonderland. It’s in the breeding.

10.     Stay With You by Goo Goo Dolls
I'll stay with you
Walls will fall before we do
Take my hand now, we'll run forever
I can feel the storm inside you
I'll stay with you

Fooled by my own desires
I twist my fate just to feel you
But you, turn me toward the light
And you're one with me
Will you run with me?

She claims his watches are his shackles, that he’s a slave to time. In reply, he gives her one of them, telling her they’re shackled together now. Him and her, her and him. They’re in this until the end now. Together.

11.     9 Crimes by Damien Rice
Leave me out with the waste
This is not what I'd do
It's the wrong kind of place
To be thinking of you
It's the wrong time
For somebody new
It's a small crime
And I've got no excuse

Alice takes another For Your Head pill while waiting for Whitey to come back, in another attempt to piece together her memories. Yet Whitey seems to be popping up amid the jumbled mix of her memories far too frequently to be coincidence.

12.     She Is The Sunlight by Trading Yesterday
If all the flowers faded away
And if all the storm clouds decided to stay
Then you would find me each hour the same
She is tomorrow and I am today

And if right is leaving I'd rather be wrong
She is the sunlight and the sun is gone

If loving her is a heartache for me
And if holding her means that I have to bleed
Then I am the martyr and love is to blame
She is the healing and I am the pain
She lives in a daydream where I don't belong
She is the sunlight and the sun is gone

He should be panicking that he’s been fingered as Alice’s “kidnapper”, but all Whitey can think of right now is how to rescue Alice from beneath Harry Hunt’s nose, and how he can kill Gonzo in the most painful and slow way for taking her to Harry in the first place.

13.     Bad Things by Jace Everett
When you came in the air went out.
And every shadow filled up with doubt.
I don't know who you think you are,
But before the night is through,
I wanna do bad things with you.

Alice finds herself in the lion’s den itself, “guest” of Harry Hunt. She can’t help feeling like he’d much rather kill her than bother getting the reward from her father, but she won’t let him see how scared she actually is.

14.     I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

He can’t believe he’s gambling with the king of the underworld himself, but Whitey’s about ready to do anything to get Alice out of here safely right now. But then Hattie turns up yelling about Alice “stealing her tarts”...

15.     Heads Will Roll by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Off with your head
Dance 'til you're dead
Heads will roll, heads will roll
Heads will roll, heads will roll
On the floor

One of Harry’s ridiculous "trials" is the last thing Alice or Whitey needs right now. Yet even if he’s not allowed to speak in Alice’s defence, Whitey can’t help but be impressed at how well Alice handles herself in front of Harry all on her own.

16.     All The Right Moves by OneRepublic
I know we've got it good, but they've got it made
And the grass is getting greener each day
I know things are looking up, but soon they'll take us down
Before anybody's knowing our name

They've got all the right friends in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
They've got all the right moves in all the right faces
So yeah, we're going down

Felix promised her he could give her back the fifteen seconds she lost giving that homeless woman change, and she can only hope he’s right. As she spits insults at Harry, and he and his heavies lunge forward to grab her, she yells when, and as Felix clicks his fingers, time stands still. So she runs...

17.     Love Is Dead by Kerli
This is the hardest part
When you feel like you're fading
All that you have's become unreal
Collapsing and aching

All I want, all I want is right here
But love don't live here anymore
(Love is dead, love is gone, love don't live here anymore)
Love don't live here anymore
(Love is dead, love is gone, love don't live here anymore)

As she and Whitey run for their lives, Alice is all too aware of the gunshots ringing out around them. And then she hears a sound that almost tears her heart in two. A grunt of pain, and a heavy thud, and when she turns around, she’s greeted with Whitey having taken a gunshot to the back. She doesn’t want to leave him there, she won’t...but then he dies in her arms, and she’s got to keep running...

18.     Use Somebody by Kings of Leon
I've been roaming around
Always looking down at all I see
Painted faces, fill the places I can’t reach

You know that I could use somebody
You know that I could use somebody
Someone like you

Words can’t describe how happy Alice is when she runs in front of Whitey’s taxi again, the cab skidding to a stop just before hitting her. Of course, she’s the only one who knows of their adventure in Wonderland now, and he’s more than a little confused when she throws herself into his arms and kisses him, but Alice refuses to lose him all over again.

19.     Cosmic Love by Florence & The Machine
I took the stars from our eyes, and then I made a map
And knew that somehow I could find my way back
Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too
So I stayed in the darkness with you

When she finds out that her biological mother just sold her to the people she’s called her parents for the last nineteen years, she can’t help feeling crushed. Whitey might still be confused as to just how this girl knows him, but he can’t help wanting to protect her.

20.     Falling For You by Colbie Calliat
I've been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don't know what to do
I think I'm fallin' for you

I've been waiting all my life
and now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I'm falling for you
I'm falling for you

Alice and Whitey. Whitey and Alice. He told her they were in this together, and they’ve stayed that way. She’s never felt as close to anyone as she has with Whitey, and now that she’s finally broken away from the confining restrictions of her family, she couldn’t imagine being anywhere else other than with him. He’s her White Rabbit, and she’s his Alice. They’ll always be together now, no matter what.
