2B Umpire Dana DeMuth ejected Rays Manager Joe Maddon for arguing an out call made by 1B Umpire Doug Eddings in the top of the 6th inning of the Rays-White Sox game. With two outs and one on, Rays batter Dan Johnson hit a 1-2 curveball from White Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd to first base. The ball deflected off first baseman Paul Konerko to second baseman Gordan Beckham, who threw to Floyd, covering first base. Eddings initially ruled Johnson safe at first. The umpires conferred after the play and overturned the original call, ruling Johnson out. Replays indicate Floyd did not appear to possess the ball securely while in contact with the first base bag, the call was incorrect. The call is now correct.** At the time of the ejection, the White Sox were leading, 6-1. The White Sox ultimately won the contest, 6-1.
This is Dana DeMuth (32)'s first ejection of 2011.
Dana DeMuth now has 3 points in the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League (0 Previous + 2 MLB + 1 Correct Call [Crewmate]) = 3.
*DeMuth is listed as a secondary umpire under Rule 6.b.iii.a.1.
**Quality of Correctness was challenged and overturned [affirmed] ("Incorrect" ==> "Correct").
