Fandom status update, anyone?
Where I've Been
I don't know if anyone but me has noticed a decrease in my activity, but a confluence of events has made me less active in fandom lately so if I haven't been commenting on anyone's fic or posts, that's why. I've been working as many hours as possible on this job, I actually went out and interacted with family for Thanksgiving, and I've had a sore throat for several days. On the plus side, I watched some early Glee episodes with my cousins who weren't familiar with the show and watching with casual viewers is such a great reminder of why I fell in love with this crazy show. That, combined with a break from the wank that can sometimes ensue in fandom has left me refreshed and happier about fandom than I have been in months.
What I've Missed
I haven't been on ontd_skating or Dean/Castiel live chat for a few weeks and I've only been flittering around el_puckerone and morethan4sides . What I miss most of all is timely squeeing about all things Kurt Hummel (I'm facing gif and headcanon withdrawal). I am also behind on what's going on with Sam's soul, I am severely out of the loop wrt figure skating gossip, and I haven't read fic in almost two months.
What I've Done
The most active thing I've done is my I-haven't-seen-the-episode Glee recaps over the past two weeks. This week's recap was originally posted on el_puck and it has been copied to this post for your pleasure and convenience.
Here's the episode, viewing it only though el_p comments:
Will’s sweater (I initially wrote “sweat”) and jeans are hot, but he’s doing something shades-ville that Emma calls him out on.
Something is up someone’s butt, someone in-show mentions Blaine looking like a hobbit, something unbelievable happens at 8:03 (possibly having to do with someone being up someone’s butt) and Dalton is glowing like a land of wonder.
Santana does something hot; maybe suggesting singing Rio by Duran Duran…even though that sounds unlikely.
Rachel made Finn go to couples therapy with Emma (I realized later that this meant Emma was counseling them; I was picturing Finn and Emma as the couple, because my brain). At the session someone puts their gigantic foot in their mouth. I'm guessing Finn says something he shouldn’t have.
Brittany has a magic comb. Only, wait, Artie is apparently the one who said something about a magic comb, so I don’t know what Brittany-thing Brittany did.
Someone is not big on reading. I will guess that was Puck, who either didn’t steal a soda machine or had help when he did it.
Puck’s face happens.
Will wants Puck to be an ambassador to lure the ~ladies into Glee club…or the dudes because Will knows what’s up.
adinfinitum is trying to mess with my head by making me think someone referred to glee club as the klan then doing that NOT THE FACE stuff that makes me think someone’s getting hit. YOU WILL NOT FOOL ME AGAIN, ADINFINITUM.
Will is mad about something, possibly Puck putting the moves on Lauren Zizes and stealing one of the ladies that has clearly expressed an interest in Will.
Either Lauren or Puck offers steroids as an explanation for something, but it doesn’t matter because Puck is apparently on our screens being lolarious, which is all I could hope for.
The Puck/Rachel scene is not as funny, but perhaps involves Puck borrowing her Lipsmacker ® brand chapstick. Something is worrying el_puckers and the only thing I can think is WILL FINN TASTE RACHEL’S CHAPSTICK ON PUCK’S LIPS AND THINK RACHEL HAS BEEN CHEATING ON HIM WITH PUCK? (Based on the later guess of revenge sex, I’m guessing that Finn blurted out in the couples’ counseling about sleeping with Santana and predictions are about Rachel having sex with Puck for revenge. If this is true, then I am mad that my guess about when the Finn/Santana truth comes out was wrong, but the Sectionals Sex Secret pattern continues.)
Rachel likes to think that if she died then Finn would throw himself into her grave…because this happened in Evita?
Kurt/Rachel scene, but it seems too early for the stage-mom scene from the previews so I’ve got nothing. But then Blaine is there being moved, so maybe this is the performance scene and he’s watching Kurt with googly eyes wanting to put his face on Kurt’s face. But, what’s this? Something sad just happened? Fighting the urge to spew Puck/Kurt headcanon all over the place.
Rachel and Emma are wearing cute jackets, as is their wont.
Faberry sexual tension banter happens.
Rachel and Kurt are being friendly while Puck is often groovin’ on the cute old people by either looking at them lustily or crying. Next year, he’s totally joining the Hipsters. Mike is not nearly as into it.
Finn looking hot happens.
Someone performs Hey Soul Sister and even though Puck makes sense, I’m guessing it’s Dalton because Kurt is looking awk while the song is happening. Perhaps because they’re doing the song acapella and WTF?
Will is pissed because one of his kids has left him and he loves his kids. Kurt is either supposed to feel the love that is actually pissed!Will or feel the love that is stage mom!Rachel from the preview.
Someone accused Puck of not liking Lauren and he gallantly stated that he did like her. (Headcanon says they bond over “home movies.”)
Brittany wants to let someone comb her hair with a magic comb. I’m guessing Lauren, after she and Puck get back from motocross practice, but it’s probably Artie.
Puck is looking hot because Lauren is making him hot.
A Sam/Quinn scene happens.
New Directions/Will figure that if they won Sectionals last time by entering through the back doors then they’ll do it again, Sam makes amazeballs faces while singing, New Directions sings Valerie and Santana gets sings the hell out of a solo which she sings while looking at Brittany, and Brittany and Mike get their dance on.
Carl proposes to Emma, which I am surprisingly yay about considering it doesn’t involve Puck’s face at all. Either el_puckers, do not share my yay about this or Puck and Rachel make-out and then Puck says he can’t have sex with his friend’s girlfriend again and it’s supposed to be redemption, but they still made out and that’s what el_puckers are :/ about.
Someone named Pavarotti happens.
NEXT WEEK Tina sings Flo and the Machine, Finn and Puck hug, and Lauren is still the new Kurt.
What I'd Like
My assignment is coming to an end and I think it's the perfect time for me to reimerse myself in the wonders of fandom, especially the fic I've missed. Here's where things get interesting. Most of you know I'm all about Puck/Kurt, Dean/Castiel, and Johnny Weir/life. Some of you may also know that I'm into Kurt/Jesse, Dean Winchester/Neal Caffrey, and Adam Lambert/Tommy Joe Ratliff. However, I've got some new flisters who I know ship other pairings ('sup new Finn/Kurt and Sassy lovers), and some old friends who've always had different ships (Zebraswan anyone?), as well as quite a few who have been swayed by a shiny new ship (Kurt/Blaine, obvs). So let's call today the chance to open my eyes to new possibilities. Rec me anything. Any ship, any rating, self-rec if you like. I want to know what I've been missing over the last few weeks.
What I'm Planning
I'm thinking of starting a series of posts that will hopefully get my flist involved, where we find out what other interests we have in common and I rec things like TV shows and websites. Hopefully at least one person will be interested in each post.
I find myself still in love with Puck/Kurt even though most of my fic has been jossed to hell and back, and I think that it will be interesting to step back into reading and writing fic now that the landscape has changed with Blaine's addition. Ironically though, the fic I'm most interested in putting down on paper involves Kurt/Santana and a sweet potato. It's probably not-quite-exactly what you think it is.
