(Video) Mike Douglas interview with Mark and Harrison

Feb 22, 2008 14:27

Several months ago I promised someone I'd get this footage uploaded somewhere. It's taken me so long that she may not even be in the fandom any more *hangs head in shame*. It's still a good interview though, and still worth making available. I'll probably cross-post this to mark_harrison because I think that's where I made my original promise.

Hi! That would be lovely - and I know how you feel about ESB :). I've friended you too - hope that's okay. My journal isn't very exciting - I talk a lot of nonsense :D. I keep meaning to write more.

Oh, well, it's not that I keep my journal so exciting, though I try hard... *grins*

Anyway, when I decided to lurk in here to see if there was a basis to friend you, I bumped into this post with the d/l link to this interview. I could watch it only now and... it's the most amazing thing I've ever put my eyes on for a long, long time! I still can't believe of how lucky I've been to decide coming here and to take part to the

Well I'm so glad you did come here and I'm really glad you enjoyed the interview :). I think it's a lovely one because it gets straight to the point of why the film works. And Harrison does look wonderful in it, so I can see why you like it so much ( ... )

strong bonds between male characters has been something I've been drawn to since I was a very small child.

Exactly. I think that as first step toward slash it is necessary to enjoy strong male friendships, and it's just the way I've grown up, maybe because TV shows did emphatize on those bonds in the past.

I understand that you might be involved in Luke as much as I was invested in Han. They are both so worth! And I guess this is a further step toward slash: in my book it is possible only when both male characters are deep and multi-leveled and performed by handsome, expressive actors.

That being said, it's a bit engaging for me to start slashing Han and Luke as I never did it and I should "unlearn what I learned" *g*, that is to pull apart Han from Leia (or from my MarySue) and find a subtext in everything they shared on the screen. It's a challenge, but I like it, it gives me a new perspective to revive an old fandom cuz I feel the need to re-discover it ( ... )

in my book it is possible only when both male characters are deep and multi-leveledIt's the same for me, because I love to explore all those levels within the characters. A one-dimensional character wouldn't work for me, and it seems to me (this is a generalisation, I know) that where a film or TV show is exploring a male/male bond, they sometimes allow more leeway in character development. I think it's one of the reasons why the portrayal of het relationships doesn't interest me in the same way - there often seems to be a basis of inequality (a total turn-off for me) or stereotyping there, or they just fall back on some bog-standard love scene ( ... )
