Morgoth has been observing. First, it was the intriguing being with the purple eyes and the elflings, scouring the forest for snakes, toads, spiders and the like. Then it was again this same being and an Atan, placing them in various places throughout the Mansion - mice in drawers, beetles on tables, snakes in cupboards, etc.
The traps amused Melkor of the powerful mind, but he found them petty. Harmless.
He found that too little was achieved, and so his mind reached out through the vortex which separates him from the physical realm of the Mansion, long enough to twist Eru's creatures to his own nefarious and glorious purposes. The mice, snakes and other critters grow to monstrous proportions, their mouths excrete a sickly juice. Those creatures who make it outside scamper, scramble and scuttle as if looking for something.
Those bold enough or foolish enough to follow these abominations to their destination might then come onto a rather... uncanny location.
In an abandoned quarry, a worrisome run-down carnival seems to have set camp. There are however no ticket sellers and no masters of ceremony. The only sounds which animate the constructions are that of rusty squeaks and uncanny accordions which fade in and out like wandering spirits.
Throughout their explorations, Mansion dwellers might notice broken rides which rather look like death traps, paint peeling off dry-rotting booths full, moth-eaten stuffed animals. Some might get the tingling feeling that they are being followed or observed, and they would be right, for Morgoth's mind is every listening for gleeful suffering and fear. This impression would be even stronger and disconcerting to those who venture in the funhouse and face its various mirrors and cobwebs.
Everything about the carnival is uncanny. The rides are working on their own and games reset themselves when no-one is looking... The dark is full of deceit, and so out of the corner of theirs eye, one might see a creepy old carnie or a clown.... which disappears suddenly. At the centre of the circus, a decrepit carousel in the middle plays odd music from a broken calliope.
[OOC: So, a Halloween crackplot, a collaboration between Sage, Ref, Meg and yours truly. The post itself includes descriptions ganked from Meg's interventions in chat and notes taken by Ref.
To explain what happened, Tsuzuki and Murata wanted to prank the Mansion, Tsuzuki enlisted Elured and Elurin. However Morgoth thought it was a bit too benign, SO. Have a gentle prank gone wrong, with consequences up to the participating typists. It only works in places, so it's up to the typists, basically. If someone's careful it might be creepy but they can enjoy it almost like a regular carnival but if they're not... anything can happen.
The in-game duration of Morgoth's spell is no more than 12 hours, after which the carnival vanishes and the surviving critters return to normal. Mingle (and squirm) as much as desired. >:D
For ambiance,
enjoy a playlist, curtosy of Ref. ^^]
