[Open Post] Hangin' With a Nun

Sep 13, 2010 11:51

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us... Sorry God, but does it involve having your arm mangled by a crazy bitch and being humiliated? Cause that's pretty hard to forgive.

Eda takes a deep breath and opens her eyes, she now knows another reason why she is an atheist. She believes in revenge, whole heartedly. ( Read more... )

Speak of the devil...who says, pointedly, that you wouldn't have had a problem if you hadn't tried to shoot anyone, Eda. Though he might be a bit guilty. However, at the moment he's just wandering, thoughtful, focused on about six different things at once, none of which is the woman in the main room.

He probably should be noticing her, but that's the Doctor for you.

As soon as she sees the Doctor, she calls him out. Just not in a way you'd expect.

"You jammed my gun, didn't you?"

He turns, eyes already wide in that way of his, though he's already answering, "Yes, I did, I did tell you I don't like guns-"

And then he notices the bandage on her arm, and his frown deepens. "You know," he adds, a bit carefully, "That...does not say much about your claim not to be an idiot. Now without a gun. --are you all right?"

"I was stabbed and nearly molested by a crazy woman... HOW ALRIGHT DO YOU THINK I AM, YOU SKINNY LITTLE BASTARD! I was about to suffer something worse than death, because of your foolish fucking ideals!" She yells.

She sighs and calms down. "If I wasn't so sure that you weren't human, I'd snap your fucking neck right now. But I'm not."

---he blinks at her, wide eyed for a moment before the frown sets in. "My ideals are hardly foolish. My ideals involve people not getting killed, generally an ideal that is considered commendable." He pauses. "Besides, you wouldn't have had a problem," the Doctor adds, finally, "If you weren't trying to shoot someone, I daresay."

At her second comment, his mouth goes a little flat and his eyebrows draw down. "You're not? Well, that's convenient. Did someone look at that?" With a nod at her arm.

He's feeling a bit guilty, or was, but her shouting kind of negated that. For the moment.

Eda sighs. In a way, The Doctor is right. If Eda didn't threatened Aramat with a gun, this would have never happened. Aramat was defending herself... in the end. But she isn't going to admit it. Eda is a difficult bitch, don't you know?

"By all fucking means, I should... No."

"No," he corrects her, almost delicately, "You shouldn't. I could - check it, if you like. Have a bit of experience with some of that. Doctor, after all."

Of course he's right. He often is. That's what makes his attitude somewhat infuriating, a lot of the time.

Eda replies in a straight forward manner. "Fuck no. You got me into this shit, I'll be dammed if I'm asking you for any help."

As the Typist said once before, Eda is a difficult bitch.

His mouth sets in a straight line, but he shrugs. "Suit yourself. It was a genuine offer."

He doesn't correct her about where the fault lies again. After all, perhaps he should have at least told her that he jammed her gun. But that would have taken all the fun out of the surprise. But he wasn't expecting her to actually go shooting at someone!

Idiots.

Eda then looks at him with a strangely calm face, her voice has changed a bit too.

"Tell me, Doctor. Why do you hate guns?"

He gives her a long, hard, look, and finally answers. "A few reasons. One, because guns kill people and that is something I will never approve of. Two, because they make it easy to kill people. Anyone can use a gun and you don't have to think to pull the trigger, and then you can't take it back. Three, I just don't like them. They're loud, and they smell, and they generally come with idiots who enjoy killing things."

He gives her a cool once over. "That's why."

Eda replies to this by laughing. "You know, for a Doctor that believes in peace, you really don't know empathy that well..."

"But you're hard-headed. Like me. So I'll just tell you this... I may be an idiot, but I'm a hired idiot. It's only a job. My job requires me to shoot things, it's not easy, or lovely. It's just what I do. I don't take pleasure in it." (That last sentence was a lie, but he doesn't have know that.)

"I'd love to believe in your ideas, Doctor. But the world I left doesn't work that way..."

The Doctor just...looks at her. And for a moment there is something very old and very fierce in his eyes, and then it flickers away and he's just unusually intense, his mouth a line.

"There is no world that is all sunshine and flowers," he says, finally, and he is serious about this. "None that I have ever found that does not have conflict. Very few that do not have some form of violence. But there are perhaps four other planets with species that are happy to kill their own kind with such impunity as humans do."

"So don't tell me that there is no other option. There are plenty of other options. You say that, you're giving up any chance you ever have to fix things. You'll go on shooting people and they'll go on shooting back, and that's it, everyone kills each other."

"I know people," he says, "I know humans. And I know that they can be better than that. So I expect them to be."

Eda laughs.

"Tell me, what makes us humans worth your time, then? Even without guns, we still find reasons to kill each other. So what exactly is your point? Are you better than us? Do you feel sorry for us?"

His eyes soften slightly, very slightly. "Because you're brilliant," he says, quietly and honestly. "Because you do so much, because your lives are short and you live them completely - or some people do. Because you're clever and you have so much potential to grow and be more and I know it, so I'm not about to let you be destroyed, am I? It'd just be - a waste. A waste of a great planet and a lot of lovely people."

Eda puts her head down. Thats not the humanity she knows. Even before she went to that Roanapur, her soul was slowly eroding away.

"Wow, for a alien, you are optimistic about us."
