After saying his goodbyes and being completely fed up with peoples' foolish superstitions, Miles Edgeworth goes outside to restart his car and leave this strange place. However, as he opens the door, he is greeted by a very different landscape than he had left the night before. Where there was once paved street, there was now little more than a rocky dirt road, muddy from the rain. It wound its way into the woods - Miles couldn't see past there.
I don't remember this at all! he thinks. Could I have really been so distracted last night, so blinded by rain, that I missed this? I really should pay more attention...
But at least his shiny red sports car was still where he parked it. Getting to it, however, was no easy task and required a delicate testing of the ground at every step - more like a dance, really - to keep his dapper shoes clean. Once inside, he lets out a satisfied sigh and turns the key. Even with this much gas, I should be able to get to a gas station fairly quickly to refuel. There aren't that many rural places here... These trees should clear out in no time.
Things take a turn for the worst almost immediately. Miles' attempts at pulling away are met with lurches, bumps, rattles, and a sickening slurp-slap sound. His stomach sinks into despair as his imagination runs wild with the damage the rocks and mud are doing to his expensive car, and he cringes with every jolt and splatter. It's just for a little while and then I'll find pavement, these woods can't last forever, he tells himself over and over. But the trees keep coming... and the forest thickens... and the car continues to shake, sway, and squish along. After what feels like he must have been driving for nearly an hour, Miles' car finally runs out of gas and his heart runs out of optimism (not that he had a great store of it). He gets out of the car, more irritated than his delicate steps would display, and slams the door, letting out an agonized yell when he sees how much mud is splattered on his car.
"Now what?!" he yells into the air. All he can see ahead of him is more dirt and more forest. He begins to debate if he should try walking forward and wonders if the Mansion is the closest civilization on this back-path. Feeling weary and useless, he turns back on a whim - and nearly faints. The Mansion is there - quite close, in fact - despite how long he drove away from it. "No..." he whispers, short of breath. "It can't be..."
As soon as feeling returns to his legs he begins stumbling toward it, gradually breaking into a run, fueled by pure adrenaline and fear. "Tony?!" he cries. "TONYYY!! TSUZUKIIII!!"
