[Open Post] Scream in the Night

Oct 16, 2012 15:02

Late at night, Dancy is on watch, as she'd promised Hisoka: she's not accustomed to working with anything like a team, but this makes up for the fact that her angel seems to have forsaken her in this strange place. It keeps her busy: idle hands were the devil's best tools, her grandmother always said ( Read more... )

It's late, but Gingalain's still up, wandering the corridors, because walking around in the dark feels a bit like an adventure. It's fun.

He is very easily amused.

Since he's not magically gifted himself, he can't feel anything unusual, so he's completely happy and oblivious.

He might hear footsteps creeping along in the hallway, and a girl turns the corner suddenly, a small, pale girl in her mid-teens, clad in shapeless, rather boyish garments, her hand on the pocket on the leg of her trousers.

"Did you hear that awful scream?" she asks.

"No," Gingalain says, expression going from happy and careless to serious and knightly in an instant. "Is someone in trouble?"

"Not sure, maybe," she says, glancing down the hallway. "Could've been someone having a nightmare. Could be something worse. Sounds like it came from the lower floor."

"Then we should go and find them, and offer them our aid!" Gingalain says, swiftly. Then pauses. "...which way is it?"

"Down that way," she says, pointing toward the stairs at the far end. "I got keen ears and...I can sense things most people can't." She hesitates to reveal this, but she sensed something unpleasant, and she figured it was better to forewarn him.

"Then let's go!" Gingalain says, enthusiastically, and starts heading in the direction she's pointing.

She'll hurry to keep up with him, not wanting to lag behind.

Once they reach the stairs, they'll find a tall twenties-ish guy in green flannel PJs, scurrying up the steps, his dark hair on end.

Seeing him, and *seeing* him, Dancy nearly lets out a gasp of shock.

Gingalain doesn't even notice Dancy's reaction.

"Did you hear that scream?" he demands, sounding serious and a little bit excited.

The rumple-headed guy skids to a stop a few steps away. "Yeah, it woke me up: anyone know what the heck it was?" he asks.

"Why is there an angel of death here?" Dancy mutters, and she might take a step behind Gingalain. This is so out of her depth...

Gingalain still doesn't even notice Dancy's reaction.

"No, but we're going to find out, in case someone is in trouble and needs our help."

"Wish I could help you: that noise literally just woke me up out of a sound sleep," the tall guy groans, still rubbing his eyes. "Brrr!"

"Asleep? How could something like you be asleep?" Dancy demands.

Gingalain looks at Dancy, confused. "It's the middle of the night."

So why wouldn't somebody be asleep?

"But he's an Angel of Death, they don't sleep," she insists.

"Angel of Death? I'm a lot more than that: I'm a guy that got woken up by something screaming," Tsuzuki snips, looking to Gingalain with a look of relief. At least someone gets his predicament.

Gingalain is still confused. "What's an Angel of Death?"

"It collects the souls of the dying and the dead," she says. "I don't think it's going to hurt us, or we'd be dead by now."

"Well, I *do*, but I can't do it here, not in this place: people don't stay dead here," Tsuzuki replies, spluttering a bit, but there's a pained look in his violet eyes.
