Eighth Stop→HO CHI MINH CITY

Jan 22, 2013 19:14

After a quite long and exhausting busride from Phnom Penh, Yui and I arrived in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon as it used to be called, is the biggest city in Vietnam. I took some pictures from the rooftop of our hostel Vietnam Inn Saigon at night as I love the sight of lit up streets and buildings.

Approximately 9 Million people live in Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding suburbs and everyone of them seems to own a motorbike! Therefore, the traffic situation is often much more busy than on the pictures ;)

Ho Chi Minh City is divided into districts (Hunger Games anyone?) with District 1 being the main district in the center of the city. It's also the main district for tourists as almost all hotels are located there, as well as the hostel and bar street Bui Vien. A lot of the buildings there are influenced by the French as they occupied the city for quite some time. Yui and I also found some cute cafes and boutiques in District 1.

We also went to District 3 which is near the center but much more local and less touristic than District 1. I really liked the architecture in that part of the city; slim houses painted in pastel colours lined up next to each other, giving off a very positive atmosphere. Yui and I also found some Hinduist and Chinese inspired temples there which we hardly found in District 1.

After being not quite sure where to go next, me and Yui decided to go and spend some relaxed days on the Vietnamese island Phu Quoc. But this is another story which I will write about in my next entry. See you☆彡

88days, vietnam
