Thursday, 4th September 2008 ... Porto Santo
... Girl's Power in Porto Santo ... hehe
Mica, Cátia, Andreia, Carmo, and I went to Porto Santo that day. We had to get up really early. Hmm, actually not that early, but it was early because we were on holiday!! hehe ... We had to get up at 6 am.
We had to catch the ferry at 7.30 am and I think the ferry left at 8 am. Firstly, we were sitting outside and it was really windy and so we decided to go inside to drink a coffee and eat something. We arrived in Porto Santo at 10 am, still early.
We had to walk quite a bit. But I liked it. Porto Santo was somehow special because it was different from Madeira. Madeira is green and people say that Madeira is in spring for all year long. Porto Santo is not green, it's sandy which doesn't mean that it is not nice, but it's different and to be honest, I couldn't say that Porto Santo was worse or better than Madeira because of this difference. You can't compare those islands, that's my point of view.
We walked and reached the "capital" Vila Baleira. We visited the Casa de Columbo there and we got a free Museum's passport. The Colombus museum was not all to bad, but honestly I had thought that it would be more interesting.
After visiting the museum, we had lunch in a restaurant. The food in there was good, but I remember that the waitresses were not very friendly and by now, I don't remember it's reason for it anymore.
Finally, after having lunch, we went to the beach. I was excited and I wanted to go swimming!! Indeed I went swimming, but it took me a little while until I was finally in the water and swam because it was not really warm. But it was great, I loved it. Cátia, Mica, and Andreia also came inside.
Later, we built a sand castle. Well, Mica didn't help us and maybe I think it was beause she may thought that it was childish what we did. Actually, it had been my idea. Hmmm... Gabi had given me a book "101 things you should do before you are old and boring" and building a sand castle was one task. I now only took the opportunity to fulfill one task. hehe :) The result wasn't too bad. We took a pic of it.
We had walk all the way back to the port later. We could have taken a taxi, I think, but we didn't and it was ok. Walking was not that bad. And so, we had time to snoop around in the shops which we did. I bought some souvenirs such as magnets and postcards. I also bought a cup with my name on it. Cátia, Andreia, and Carmo bought one as well. Finally, I forgot to take this cup with me home to Switzerland. Oh well.... I knew that I would forget at least one thing!!
Our ferry went back to Funchal at 8 pm. We arrived in Funchal at 10 pm. We were tired, no wonder. But it had been a really lovely day. Porto Santo is great and it was really worth going there! Thank you Mica and Company, for that great day!!
