If spirits don't effect you, then it must be something about the wine. Could it be some sort of preservative used in Australian wine? Or (really dumb question here and it does not seem likely) do Australian wines have a higher alcohol content?

Yes, I think so too.

The wines are different, but 1 usually drank imported wines in Japan ... the preservative sounds like a good clue. I'll have a look into that!

Allergy? Because tolerance might decrease a bit but not by that much.

That would be ... tragedy!

O.o

But, yes, I suspect the same

But there is always alcohol in other forms, and cocktails, and stuffs.

You have all the fun of testing this out as well

The Beau thinks I just should stop drinking alcohol. At all.

Insane.

No, I won't take the lazy way out of this. I'll do research.

It could have something to do with brand. I know over here, there's a huge difference between American and Canadian booze - Canadian drinks have a higher percent alcohol content. Could it be that the local drinks are stronger than what you got used to in Japan? Or, another possibility is the additives that have nothing to do with alcohol in your drinks may be very different from one country to the other, based on availability. You may be having a reaction to something in the bottle that has nothing to do with the alcohol. I'd say check out the brands you're drinking now, and the brands you were drinking before, and see if you can sleuth out what's different ( ... )

Oh, that BHA and BHT information is very interesting! I usually drunk imported wine in Tokyo. Japanese wine isn't great. They're getting better-I think the Japanese are slowly getting the hang of it, and the grapes take to the soil, but still-I prefer foreign wines.

Perhaps the imported wines had also a reduced content of BHA or BHT or none at all!

You'll figure it out, but it'll take some detective work on your part.

Yes. Must research.

lol! Well, if they've banned BHT and BHA, my guess is they probably aren't importing products made with it? I can't say that for sure, but it does seem likely. There are plenty of other preservatives to use, aside from known carcinogens. It's banned in Japan, and I think in parts of Europe. Apparently, here in the US we don't care if it'll give us cancer, or fuck up our liver and kidneys, but that's the crazy greenie in me talking. It happens to be in the ONLY "normal" cereal that is gluten-free over here and doesn't taste like shit, so it irks me. If Chex would take the BHT and BHA out, my cereal needs would be much less expensive (I say that, really do like my Panda Puffs, even if it is basically a kiddie cereal ( ... )

Well, I am actually a big drinker. With wine I'm not that particular-but I do love whisky and good vodka. On the other hand I used to love drugs and I can live without most of them, too.

iibnf suggested that some wine has milk in it, for filter purposes? That might be one cause, since as an Asian, I'm lactose intolerant ...

Wine can have some strange shit in it, like egg and milk to clarify it. Try tequila, it's pure!

I am not a tequila person, but I think good vodka can be the same-very pure, clear, without impurities.

I don't think whisky has that effect on me either-I drink aged, oaky Lagavulin and Laphroaig on a reglar basis and I never ever had these experiences.

Milk of course, can be a problem-I am lactose-intolerant. Not 100% but well, I'm asian. We have it pretty bad.

I used to work with a guy who came in one day so sick, because he'd been drinking these milky muscle building shake things all weekend. He said, "I think I might be lactose intolerant" and I'm like, "Of course you are, you're Korean you moron!" He had no idea that most Asians are LI.

Vodka makes me angry. Angrys up the blood, as Grandpa Simpson would say.

Funny how different drinks seem to activate different parts of our personalities-I wonder if it also comes down to marketing and how we perceive the image of some drinks. I am definitely more social and louder when I drink vodka. I never get really aggressive. Funnily I am often irritated when sober, but one drink, and I'm the nicest person in the world :D

Whisky for example makes me mellow and very loving and a bit mushy so I drink it alone :D
