Apart from having fun writing sordid things as I do, this was also about getting to know Remus. In my head canon I actually don't think Remus Lupin likes Severus Snape much

So, it's understandable that he wouldn't like him, even if he had felt guilty for not stepping in and stopping the bullying. Maybe there was some part of him that felt Severus deserved it back then for his snooping. Teenagers are not the most circumspect of people much of the time.
I love that most of the characters are so complex and a realistic mix of strengths, weaknesses, and good and bad traits. It's what makes them so interesting to explore. If they were all flat out "good guys" and "bad guys" I would have given up on it all ages ago.

Yet, this is, where my Snupin starts-I can see strange attractions and desires in exactly that momentum! Snape might be easily riled and bitter and hateful, but he can see through Lupin. No one else is better equipped to see behind Remus' masks than Snape, and I'd like to imagine that this interests Remus at least.

Yes and yes! I too think that they understand each other/see through each other in a way that no-one else does. Even if they don't like each other much (and I don't think they do), I can see them working together and also clinging to each other in some sort of co-dependent, dysfunctional kind of way (depending on how dark you want to make it).

When people say "I neither like nor dislike ..." it means in general they don't like the person they're talking about but it says even more about them-they have themselves under control. It is important for them to remain impartial, to appear neutral. I thought JKR did a great job in characterizing Remus Lupin, of the careful balance he maintains at all times. It's rather fascinating!
