Fic: Naked (RL/SS, SB/RL, SB/SS, NC17)
I have uploaded the first two chapters of Naked, a fic I begun/wrote for the LMOM Challenge in 2011, to AO3.
Apart from having fun writing sordid things as I do, this was also about getting to know Remus. In my head canon I actually don't think Remus Lupin likes Severus Snape much.
I can agree with many, who dislike Remus Lupin, that he is actually the worst-he is an opportunist. Unlike Peter in the books, he knows. He is intelligent and self aware, yet tolerates the bullying, betraying principles he pretends to uphold.
Reading the books I felt Remus Lupin harboured a certain disgust towards Snape, but realised, on some level, that he was blinded by his own prejudices. Later he felt guilty about how they had treated Snape in school, but in a way that can make you dislike someone even more.
Then again, I feel especially Harry Potter fans are good in seeing both sides-in recognising complex layers, the fatal interweaving of good intentions and weaknesses, pettiness paired with heroic acts-we couldn't love the books otherwise. Almost every character is flawed and questionable, yet can be redeemed or at least understood.
I don't recall exactly, if he was genuinely sorry or not. I seem to remember that he has a conversation with Harry in one of the books where he acknowledges his own part in the bullying of Snape, but am not so sure anymore.
Also, is there not a moment in which he states, that he "trusts Severus Snape"? Is that not his attempt to make amends-not even with Snape himself, who isn't present to hear these words, but with his own past?
Which is what made me want to write a Snupin which made peace with my head canon, and still ended in hot sex for my favourite characters. As you can read I went about in a very subtle way (hint: NOT).
ETA: Also I liked that the title is also the title of a Mike Leigh movie David Thewlis starred in.
