I could go for a nap.

You guys, the new Baristas at my Starbucks are awful. Well, there's one guy who's okay, but the new manager is a five-year-old nitwit with a seriously annoying voice, and the girl who made my coffee today interpreted 'a little bit of room' as a good two inches of room. Even after I added more half-and-half than I (or my waistline) needed, there was still a good inch of room at the top of the cup.

Clearly my goal of cutting back on caffeine is not going well. My goal of cutting back on Starbucks, on the other hand, gets a little easier every day.

Still busy at work. Still internet-free at home. You'd think I'd be a lot more productive without any internet or TV, but you'd be wrong. Last night I watched Tremors 2 & 3 just to 'refresh myself on the canon'. I wish I were joking.

In my defense, my sister took me to the day spa for my (early) birthday yesterday, and by the time we got out of there I was exhausted. Who knew being pampered could be so tiring?? Seriously, the facial was lovely and relaxing, but it took ages. Then we got a mani/pedi and that took even longer, not to mention the girl who did my nails clearly did not care to be there, doing her job, which made the experience less than pleasant. Which is a shame, because my sister gave them a lot of money.

Well, she had a gift certificate for most of it, which her husband gave her for Mother's Day 2009, but still. He paid for it last year, so it was still a lot of their money. And both of us have jacked up our nails already. Oh well. At least the facial was really nice.

I have written about 2,000 words this weekend, which is a big improvement over the last week and change. I'm working on two novels right now: a supernatural romance which I hope to publish in trade paperback, and a gay romance which I hope to list with an e-press such as Lyrical or similar. One is just past the 25,000 word mark, and the other is officially past the 11,000 word mark. I despair of having a completed rough draft by September 1st, since I've been working more steadily on the gay romance, which is only at 11,000 words. But progress is progress, so I'll take it.

I wish I could share them with you guys, but that whole 'internet published' thing is tricky. So I will continue to write in a vacuum. It's not so bad, now that I'm used to it again. Less pressure than fic, in a way.

In less than a week I leave for Rhode Island with my sister and her family. I will spend my birthday in a minivan with two other adults, two toddlers, and a fifteen-year-old. Pray for me.
