New icon, made by the lovely
sassygirl! ::twirls:: I have such an intellectual crush on Ray, it's true.
So I'm at work, and I'm bored, and I still have a headache, and I am avoiding a couple Criminal Minds fics I'm supposed to be working on. Who wants to commentfic with me? We can play in whatever universe you want.
Unrelatedly, I've been working on a new CSI playlist lately, mostly just a bunch of songs that describe the arc of their relationship as fleshed out in the Pancake Series. I listen to it while I write, mostly, and I've got David Cook's cover of "Always Be My Baby" on there, because that's absolutely Greg's attitude toward the 'off again' parts of their relationship. Only I am annoyed that David felt the need to change the pronouns instead of just singing the original words.
It's stupid, I know. Singers change gender-specific pronouns when they cover songs all the time. I just find it inconvenient for my own mixtape purposes. But I'm still leaving the song on my mix, because other than a random 'girl' every now and then, it really is perfect.
My True Love Hath My Heart
My true love hath my heart, and I have his,
By just exchange one for the other given.
I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss:
There never was a bargain better driven.
His heart in me keeps me and him in one;
My heart in him his thoughts and senses guides:
He loves my heart, for once it was his own;
I cherish his because in me it bides.
His heart his wound received from my sight;
My heart was wounded with his wounded heart;
For as from me on him his hurt did light,
So still, methought, in me his hurt did smart:
Both equal hurt, in this change sought our bliss,
My true love hath my heart and I have his.
-- Sir Philip Sidney
It's a sentimental choice, I know, and at any given moment I could name a dozen more poems I love equally. But I always come back to this one.
