This year I wrote four fics in four different fandoms for Yuletide. It was a bit of a struggle, ngl, mainly because I haven't written *anything* in so long that I wasn't sure I remembered how.
Two assignments:
Happily Ever After (Every Now and Then), Tremors, Rhonda/Val, PG.
After the graboids, Earl and Val finally make it out of Perfection. The only problem is that Rhonda's still a scientist, and she has to go where the science is.
This fandom! Everyone who's ever read my journal knows that I've been obsessed with the entire Tremors canon for years. I can't explain why, I just love every bit of it, from the first movie to the horrible fourth movie to the deliciously campy (and far too short-lived, damn you, Sci-Fi Network) TV series. So I've offered this every year it was requested, and meant to treat it when I didn't get the assignment, but something always happened and I never wrote the epic post-movie Rhonda/Val fic I wanted to.
This...isn't exactly that fic. I wish it was better. I wish it was much, much longer. But I think I've filled in some post-canon gaps, based on the bits of information Earl gives us about Val and Rhonda's fate in Tremors II, and I'll have to be satisfied with that.
A Bird In the Hand, Orange Is the New Black, Nicky/Lorna, PG.
In which Lorna has the flu, and Nicky definitely doesn't steal any of her stuff.
I picked up this pinch hit and instantly panicked, because what was I thinking, attempting to write something from Nicky's POV? But it turned out to be really fun, and I think it was fairly successful. I love the canon so much that writing for it scared me, but I'm glad I took the chance.
And two treats:
Shuffling Cards, Redshirts by John Scalzi, Andy/Jimmy, NC17.
Jimmy's suite, Jimmy's rules.
The fact that everyone who's ever read this book doesn't ship these two is a crime. A crime. When I saw that there was a request for Andy/Jimmy, I was all over it. What I wanted to write was far, far longer and never would have been done in time, though, so I contented myself with a little missing scene. It's a complete tease, but I liked where it ended, so I let it ride. Thankfully the giftee didn't seem to mind.
Family Portraits, While You Were Sleeping, Lucy/Jack, PG.
It didn't take long for Lucy to fit into the Callaghan family traditions. Sometimes Jack even thinks his family likes her better than they like him.
I only had time for a couple treats this year, but I couldn't resist this one. It's just a little post-canon fluff, but it was fun to revisit the universe. I love this movie an embarrassing amount.
