(no subject)

The list of songs that have gone through my head so far today:

--"Pore Jud is Daid" from Oklahoma (by the way, I looked this up to make sure I had the title right and boy howdy did I not)

--"First" - Lindsay Lohan

--"Come Sail Away" - Styxx

--"Jerusalem" - hymn

Honestly, these are the things that fill my head and keep things like work related facts and important data from lodging there instead.

And sort of related, but really not - in college we had Humanities course requirements. I liked them a lot because they get to stray a bit more because they weren't classified as English or History or Art. I took one class on Japanese Culture in which I got to do an oral report on Shonen Knife. Another class was on the Vietnam war and perceptions of the conflict. We saw movies (everything from John Wayne to Vietnamese films of the time period and Rambo First Blood: Part II). We read books. We looked at everything that pertained to the subject, and it was really cool.

The last Humanities class I took was the last semester of my senior year. I had to take one more Humanities credit to graduate. I chose a class on Bach, and I was really excited because I've always wanted to learn more about classical music because I know nothing really. At the same time, I was working on my thesis, taking a math class I needed to graduate and taking a few last classes in my major that I needed to graduate. So, really, this class was the least of my priorities.

I loved learning about Bach's life and music and the history and art of the era. However, I seriously almost got a C and for one reason only. I couldn't for the life of me remember to call his works as pieces instead of songs. A song, you see, has words. As I'm sure YOU know and remember because unlike me, you're not flitting around humming the words to songs from Oklahoma....

music, school
